1. Does Canon make a wireless remote to fire the shutter on the 1DSMKII? I couldn't find one in a search of B&H's website.

2. If not, does another company make one?

3. If there is such thing, would it go on the hot shoe attachment, thus eliminating the possibility of placing my 580ex there at the same time?

4. If there is no such product (which I find hard to believe) what is the simplest "made by Canon" way of releasing the shutter when on tripod without pressing the shutter release?

Also, which wireless device do you recommend to fire the flash off camera? (Assuming it's my only flash at the moment?)

Thanks
Mark

It is called LC-4 controller, try following link.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=164268&is=USA

For some things like this, Angle Finder C, Eye piece extender, and focusing screens. I find using BH's search function works better then following what should be the obvious links.

Smartest thing I did was download EOS system chart from Canon pages

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/app/pdf/d_eos/syschart012904.pdf

They apparently have updated it since I last looked, best chart is page 7, but lots of good stuff in document. It looks like they also have upgraded the controller to LC-5, which would explain why BH has LC-4 as out of stock.

The Pocket Wizards are RF (vs IR) and work up to approximately 1600 ft from camera. They work in pairs, one transmitter, one (or more) receivers.

They can be placed on the hotshoe, if necessary (camera fires the PW, which in turn fires remote flashes - flashes have a PW attached...)

PW's come with two separate ports, on for camera, one for flash. Either one port can be interchanged (ie one PW to fire two cameras or two flashes).

The PW's only come with a flash synch cord.

To fire the camera with the PW, you need a separate cable to connect to the camera. A popular cable is a Pre-Release cable which has the option for keeping the camera "on" at all times. Cheaper cables do not have this option.

To fire hot shoe flashes that do not provide a synch port (aka Canon flashes), you need to buy another separate cable. I purchased mine from Paramount Cords.

I currently utilize my PW's to fire the camera(s) and allow the connected flash (Master) to fire the slaves. This allows me to use E-TTL/E-TTLII of the camera.

The PW also provides a transmitter for certain light meters (Sekonic being one) that allows one to fire the PW's from the light meter. I have two PW Multimax's which are either transmitter, receiver, or both. By utilizing the lightmeter (L358 )I can free up a Multimax as a transmitter, thus providing myself a two camera remote (for different views).

A wireless remote is available from http://canoncable.com. There are 2 models, 30 and 100 meter. Cost is 60% less then other solutions.

This link goes to a cable, not a wireless remote.

Do you, by any chance, know anybody who works there?
--or--
Do you, by any chance, work there yourself?
