Does anyone know if Canon is producing a PowerShot Pro1 equivalent that supports USB2? If so, when?

I don't know, but really you would be better off just getting a USB2 card reader to transfer your pictures from card to computer.

I wouldnt recommend syncing ur USB directly to ur cam. Eventually if u use ur camera enough the usb port on ur camera will wear out, and it will start to get loose, and if its loose the contacts wont line up properly and u might loose tiny but significant chunks of data in the transfer process. This will potentially intterupt the trransfer and ull have to start again, corrupt the file, or parts of the file may be missing (possibly EXIF data, or black dots in ur pic where color information has been lost). This is why most people on here prefer the card reader. The contacts on a memory card last longer as the card is slid into place and there isnt much room to move up and down, so there isnt much friction, as when u pull out a usb which can potentially be on an angle, which will wear over time. Much better to replace a CF card or card reader then the usb port in ur camera. Faster and safer is always a plus too.

Also make sure u have a descent flash card as a cheap card wont reach USB2 speeds and therefore no point to use USB2 if ur card aint fast enough, whether the camera is USB1/2 it still all depends on ur memory card as its being transfered off the card not the camera.

The risk of wearing out the USB port on your camera's somewhat less than the risk of wearing out/damaging the CF slot in the camera, so that's a non-issue except for the ham-handed. Even with a camera supporting USB2, you'll still get better performance from a USB2 card reader though. Even the slowest cards in Rob Galbraith's CF database (http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007) exceeded the USB 1.1 bandwidth when run CF reader to computer, and transferred their data twice as fast via CF reader as via even the newest (20D, DRFX, NOINK D2X) cameras.
