Tried shooting my 8 month old daughter at her level. She won't sit still. The natural lighting in this room was not good. I shot at 1600 and touched up slightly in PS. C&C welcome, especially for less than ideal lighting conditions and a moving baby!

well, duh. lol.
I have a 6 month old. And it's a real challenge to get that focus right. I see you are having the same problem. You have to be quick. hah.
Anyhow, your biggest downfalls are the busy backgrounds and low light. I would try and face the baby towards that open window, to see if you can get more natural light. That way, you can ease up on the ISO so it's not as grainy. Or think about bouncing flash from ceiling. And move some of those distractions from the BG.
My 2 cents.

Thanks. I was more concerned with getting the camera settings right than the junk in the background. These are what I call "practice". I'd get her positioned just far enough away from myself, and get ready to shoot and she'd start wiggling closer to me. I need to time it better so there's more light in the skylights and the big window.

Oh, right. Sorry.
Just get that focus on the eyes and more light, and you'll be good.

If you have a flash I would use it. Bounce from the side/back walls. I would also shoot from little far with longer lens as that makes it easier to focus when they move. With longer focal length it is easier to throw the bg out of focus. Do you have something like 50mm f1.8 lens? I would use that instead of the kit lens.
