Hello, i have never owned a digital camera, and i think im the only one who doesnt have one in this technological world

i have my eyes on the Canon S70, but it seems like it had very bad reviews, being "out dated"

so i looked into the SD500, 7MP just like the S70 and it had the DIGIC II, but it did not have the quality as the S70 has.

so my question to all the knowledgeable members is which camera would be best for me?

i am looking for the quality of pictures that the S70 produces, but also the up to date features like the SD500

and what i loved about the SD500 and the S70 is that it had many manual modes and auto modes

i am also looking for somthing that will be portable, something that will fit in my pocket

so to sum it all up, i guess im looking for somthing that has great quality, up to date, manual and auto modes and "pocketable"

i suppose what im looking for is the ultimate point and shoot digital camera

The Digital Elph line is the best series of cameras if ur looking for resolution, speed, quality, and portability all in one.

What "up-to-date" features in particular on the SD500 appealed to you? If you're referring to the DiGiC II chip, its advantages are in image processing speed and image quality improvements. If you found the pictures from an S70 to be better than those of an Sd500, then that's not going to be as big a deal as it may seem. After all, why get a faster processor to get poorer pictures. Or are you relying exclusively on reviews, which can be taken out of context?

I'll second the Ixus. I love mine.

im sorry for not being as clear

in a lot of reviews, which im basing my opinion on, the SD500 got poor image quality

it seems like many people on the board have those cameras, may i get your input on the image quality and features/function on either one?

thank you in advance for your input

because it does sound like a lot of money ~450 for the SD500 if it produces poor image quality

i think in the end, i will be purchasing the SD500, any recommended websites/places to purchase it?

i think they go for about 415 on ebay

Where are you located? This is a pretty international group here (the only continent I haven't seen posters from is Antarctica), so the best place for me wouldn't be the same as for Rob612, for instance.

Ritz Camera has the Canon SD100 Elph for $185, a bargain. They are selling them on their site, I think, and on eBay, new.

If you can find a new A75, that is also a nice camera.

You can get accessories for the SD100 on ebay, like cheap batteries, cases, etc.

hmm, on a sad note, in a way

STAY AWAY FROM USAPHOTONATION.com

they are horrible site, probably a place where they buy stolen camera's and such

they dont even have customer service, and their phone line's always busy

well...i guess im still in the market for a point and shoot camera, i do have my eyes on the SD500 because it is very compact and has some what up to date features, like the digic ii

only probalem is, is that it's kind of expensive 450 range

i would probably prefer a camera i can put in my pocket, and i dont really like the older elfs

anyone out there, care to help me or give me some advise?

Check out vendors here (http://www.resellerratings.com/) before you buy. They give USA Photo Nation a stunning 0.92 (out of 10). B&H is reliable (but closed until May 1).
