Well,. been E-baying for about 4 years I'd guess,. and just got burned for the first time...

Worst part is there was a point when in the back of my head I thought,..

"this is getting weird"

I should have just bailed and let them file a negative feedback..

Oh well.. next time I'll listen to the voice in my head.
I'm interested to see if it can be resolved via PayPal...

Anyone ever have a PayPal dispute that was solved?

No, but what happened? It wasn't on that 50 1.0 was it?

It was an approx $240.00 purchase/payment via paypal.

Some "accesories" nothing huge thankfully.

The seller... was @ 100% positive feedback with about 20 transacations when I bought it.

A bunch of time a "communication" issues deleyed things,.. by the time they said it had shipped,. they had TWO NEW negative feedbacks,. and,.. there account was no longer public. :(

10 more days with no response to e-mails re- shipping and tracking etc... and the THIRD negative feedback is listed. :(

That's when I reported it.

That sucks. I wonder if it was a hijacked account? Ebay/Paypal make a big deal of their buyer protection stuff. Be interesting to see how well it works. Good luck!

I've heard a few other pay pal scams going on as well and have decided not to use it. Sorry to hear that CDS, I hope it works out in the end for you.

Not in the same boat but somebody charged some cash on my paypal account and paypal was pretty good on investigating the situation and giving me back my cash. I'm sure it'll work out.

That sucks, good luck getting it sorted.

Im just getting into the whole wonderful world of online auction at trademe.co.nz
Im selling a whole lot of car parts from a kit car I no longer want, in the hope I can get some money together to buy a real camera, and then have even less money than I used to. :)

I've had to file a couple claims, and i've always gotten my money back. once was a simiar situation where the guy had a bunch of positive feedback, then it seems like he just dropped off the face of the earth. a couple months later i got a email from him saying he had put his hand though a window or something. the stoy still seemed a little fishy, but i had already recived my money back so it didn't matter.

I've just had a claim resolved last week.

Bought some photopaper and the guy mailed me to say "I've posted it today" 20 days later still nothing and he doesn't reply to my e-mails at all. I contact paypal and they contact him. He then sends me a consignment number that shows the stuff hadn't been posted until after paypal got involved (apparently they take this sort of stuff very seriously).

I gave the guy some negative feedback about lack of action and THEN he emails me to tell me I am an a***hole!!! I just replied "So you e-mail does work then."

I found paypal to be very good at covering the issue. Good luck.

**UPDATE**

the E-bay account has been closed (by E-bay we presume).. so I don't need to worry about the feedback issue...

PayPal was able to recover about 75% of the stolen cash from the offenders bank account. (probably some other poor blokes purchase funds :( )

I'm out about $65.00... which Is certainly better than being out over $240.00 :)

I have to admit,. I am pretty happy to have gotten back what I got. I hear horror stories about PayPal often enough,.. so I was not expecting a thing. I guess if you expect the worst you can be pleasantly surprised.

With over thirty-one years experience in the business of crooks I will be the first to tell you to trust your instincts. Listen when that little voice in the back of your head speaks to you.

Sometimes you just have to trust your instincts on things like this. I'm glad to hear you got the majority of your money back. I would not have expected you to be that fortunate (if you can reasonably call it that.)

Hi CDS

I just went through a claim with paypal. I purchased PS Elements 3 off ebay and the guy was so unorganized it was unbelievable. I tried to contact seller after purchase and his E-mail did not work. This went on for about 5 days before I requested sellers personal information from Ebay. I contacted the seller by phone after about 3 times and he appolagized for the mix up and said he was still waiting for the product to arrive! I waited almost a week and asked for a update via his new Email address.
After a few more Emails he appolagized again and said my Microsoft product was in the mail. I E-mailed him back that I did not purchase any Microsoft products please send me my PS Elements! That was the last I heard from him untill I filed a claim with Paypal. About 3 days later it showed up in the mail with no box or instructions like was advertised on E-bay! I sent him another E-mail stating these facts and the next day he sent me an E-mail appologizing and he refunded all my money to my Paypal account, I also received an E-mail from Paypal saying that the case was closed!

Its my understanding the only way someone can get money from your paypal account is if you send it to them yourself, by logging into paypal and going through the steps. How did somone charge you?

I mostly sell stuff on ebay and for the most part I havent had any trouble with the buyers. I did have one guy though that claimed he never got the item and said he was going to report it to ebay/paypal, never heard from him again, and ebay and paypal didnt contanct me, nor was any funds in my account moved. That experience was odd. It makes me wonder though if someone could buy something expensive from you and then claim never to get it, if paypal will take the money back.

I have bought and sold on Ebay for years, and some good tips are:
#1. Don't buy from someone who has only purchases, then has an item or items for sale for a huge amount of money.
#2. Look at their feedback! That is why it's there. If they have a high percentage of dissatisfied customers, don't buy.
#3. Take advantage of Paypal's insurance for expensive purchases.
#4. Use escrow account for expensive purchases.
#5. If you purchase a product, and they contact you by email asking you to pay by Western Union instead of Paypal, contact Ebay immediately, and forward all emails to them about the purchase. Somethings up there!
#6. When selling an item on Ebay, always use tracking numbers when shipping the product. They can't say "I did not receive the item".
#7. Always purchase shipping insurance, and include it in the cost of shipping when you post the item for sale.

I hope this helps...
It is not hard on Ebay to maintain a good buying and selling score. The most complaints come from not contacting your buyers by email after the sale, or slow shipping.

Yeah, before everybody gets freaked out about Paypal, I've now used it to buy and sell a couple things with other forum members and it worked out very well and was very convenient.

I've got a friend that collects air jordon shoes and has been burned 2 times for about $120 each time. Pay-nopal reviewed it for 2 months and said you are sol.

Like Skip Souza I've spent 20+ years dealing with people like this, and nothing puts a smile on my face more than taking them out of play.

Glad to hear you got most of your cash back.

Did you pay via credit card?

If you did you might have a claim against the issuer.

Whats the paypal buyers insurrance for, or what ever its called, if they dont refund all your money when your ripped off?

Western Union is an attractive thing to sellers, it means the buyer pays the fee's, unlike paypal where the seller pays the fees. And those fees really add up.
