Well, thank god it wasn't "in the raw"! ;-)
As a self portrait with your head down & your shoulders forward, to me you come off as something of a wuss. (Maybe I should have added, "IMHO"?)
As a pic, I'd like to see a bit more contrast + a bit cropped off the right so you aren't so centered. There's no "dynamic" there & the pic is too static, unless that's what you were going for?

PhotosGuy, this is the "in" look right now, check MTV and you will see it in the music videos.

I like the background and the idea, but it needs more contrast to me ;)

this is the "in" look right now OK, so wear the same clothes & have the same look - "NOW we're individuals"? I've met "M&M" on the shoot for his November release. He has a different look in person. As I said, should have added IMHO. Or maybe, IMHUO? (U for uninformed) :D:D

Totally agree. Never liked MTV even when I was younger.

Well at least is not the Abercombrie & Fitch kind of pose. Man those pics cross a very fine gray line. You don't know who they are really targeting if know what I mean ;)

wow you do realise i make my own equipment i dont have a 20D I don't know where that came from. I don't have one either!
...and as for calling me a wuss Read it again, I said, " As a self portrait with your head down & your shoulders forward, to me you come off as something of a wuss." As in, you look like one, not that you are one. how the hell can you tell by the way someone stands It's called "body language". You 'read' it every day, even if you don't realise it. But reading it & using it is what photography of people is all about.

As for "ripping into your shot", since it wasn't in "Critique", you're right. I should have not tried to help you out. So, "Don't worry, be happy"!

did you change the original image? the one now has better contrast. infact i was myself trying to better your portrait in PSCS. played around with the levels cropped the right part of the image but leaving enough for your shadow, added some to the left part of the image(good ol' rule of thirds). removed the window frame
had a good/tough time replicating the background.
here i am posting the image put up initially by you and my PS version. hope you like it..

no hard feeling...

Why do you rip into the guy man? Geez relax... He is just having some fun with his camera.
I shot all my early work with the camera function of a canon XI. Thats a video camera. We all cant afford a 20d.
Geez man grow up.

MonkeyWrench,
Better lighting would have made your pic look more like a music video pic. I have been doing band studio work for the past few weeks and good lighting is critical.
Everyone is trying to compensate for the bad lighting with photoshop, so the answer is try it again and use better lighting.
Examples: (not the best, I am an amatuer, but might help)

Quite agree. Bodegalicious, if you don't like what you see, and you don't like this guy's postings in general, then please have the courtesy to just pass it by and leave it be. We could doubtless all make pretty damning, personal, smart-ass comments on stuff that some folk choose to post, but that's not what this forum is about. Check membership rule 4.6 if you haven't looked yet.

I have to agree - lighting is very important - it adds to the subject.
Great first! Keep them coming. This is a great forum.
