I'm relatively new to digital photography but am extremely enthusiastic and would love to progress onto taking pet portraits. My favourite subject is my bully Bubba....who tends to turn his back the minute he hears my camerabag unzip these days he's so sick of being shot! Anyway the only way I'll learn is by constructive criticism so please feel free :) Thanks!

I like both of them. Very nicely executed. The second one seems to be focused a bit forward (always try to get the eyes as the center of focus... looks like the news and mouth are the focus in this one). Sometimes, if possible, shooting with a slightly deeper DOF may help with getting those eyes focused.
Other than that nitpick, I love them. Great job!

The second one is great, the tongue being in focus instead of the eyes is fine. I think it helps to convey the character of the dog instead of just being a shot of a dog.

Definitely love the second one! I love all of the bullies, keep taking pictures and posting them for us to see :). I do not know what I am doing at all but I am sure as hell trying :)
Good luck and I hope you get your business for pet portraits up and running!

I love really like the second one, but I would LOVE it if it was focused better and the ear wasnt cropped out.. Overall good job!

Thanks everyone...I realise the DOF is extremely shallow in the 2nd one...I'd just bought a little 50mm for my 400D and was having fun playing with it, that shot was literally snapped at a moments notice when he woke up and looked so cute staring up at me to let him out! Many thanks for taking time to comment :D

Great shots. The 2nd one is fantastic but to me anything with a bulldog in it is perfect:)
