Urgent question Import or USA 70-200mm

From what I have read on here the warranty seems to only be good on teh USA products if they are in the USA? is that correct?

If so is there any benefit to a Canadian buying the warranty?

What Canon NZ told me is they'll service lenses no matter where they're bought from, but not camera bodies.
