Looks like the Saturday the 16 is a good date.

Let me know what you guys are planning to bring, I will be updating the first post.

We need to find a location.

Places in mind:
- Magic Island
- Kakaako
- Waimanalo
- North Shore?

I am not familiar with the West side, but been to Wainae and Koolina. Any park near the beach in Pearl City or waipahu area?

Thanks

Linkzi

How about Sharks Cove/Three tables on the North Shore? The only negative is the limited parking there. We can carpool as much as possible. We have done the other places listed already. Wendo can suggest a North Shore location.

tiarehi

North shore sounds good to me and car pool too... will google where the Sharks Cove/ Three Tables are located...

Edit: I think I have been there, is it right accross the small shopping center? starbucks and longs or safeway store..

Well, with easy access to restrooms a priority, the choices are pretty much limited to where the State parks are located.

Three Tables sounds real good, but getting there early is a must. After 8 AM, the parking there gets filled up pretty quick. With Foodland right across the street, restocking on goodies is convenient.

Parking at the church at the bend across the street from Three Tables past the fire station is available, unless services are being held.

There's a quiet little cove behind the Rec Center at Ali'i Beach Park at Hale'iwa that hardly gets used for BBQ's, but again, get there early or parking is hit or miss, especially if the surf is good.

Waimea Bay is good for BBq's too. It has more parking stalls than Three Tables (I think).

tiarehi

Wendo - Nice information. I think the key points are to find a location with ample parking, and get there early.

Ooops, forgot to add earlier: I'm in if the date chosen is open for me. I'm presently pretty busy photography-wise and I will be even busier as Summer comes into full swing so for me the sooner the better.

I can bring a propane Weber BBQ, a Weber Kettle, Coleman twin burner camp stove, two pop-up canopies, beach chairs, a couple of folding leg tables, tent for changing clothes, lounge chair, cot and some other stuff that I can't think of at the moment.

If I can make it, I pledge to bring:

1. 4 pkg. Johnsonville brats and buns to replace the ones we raided from John's stash at the Waimanalo BBQ. :D

2. Some rib eye steaks

3. A case of ice-chilled bottled water

4. Some shrimp marinaded italian style.

No need fork, bring a chainsaw and a net 'cuz the ribeyes is still gonn'a have the hooves and horns attached and the shrimp has to be fresh before cooking so they'll be swimming around in the marinade.;):D

Looks like I can make it, but I might have to leave around 5:30'ish 'cuz I gots to be somewhere else that evening. I'll try to work around that somehow. But other than that, I'm in.

I will be there early (about 6:30 - 7:00 AM).

OK on my grill staying home.

Seeing as if I'm probably going to be the first one there, I will set up my canopy to "reserve" the best spot I can find. Eh, what the heck, I'll bring two canopies just in case we need more shade or shelter for all the photo gear just in case it rains.

I will bring laptop for viewing pic's taken that day and guitar if anyone feels the urge to serenade us during/after lunch.

Question: Should I bring my lighting gear for some late afternoon strobe action?

If you do come, and considering who's already showing up, you will have an opportunity to play with many many different "L" lenses and get to share knowledge with some very skilled and creative individuals. Also, please do come as the food at our BBQ will easily outclass most other BBQ's being held that day.

Yeah, you really gott'a bring me up to date on the mini PW's 'cuz I haven't had even a chance to test mine out or update the firmware on them yet. Sure will! Can you bring your meter and the B1600 and Vagabond. I want to synch my new PWs to 1/8000 with them. We got 1/4000 at the last meet with Allan's B1600. I'd also like to see how everything is attached to the ABs. I keep thinking of getting the new one when it comes out even though I know I won't be using it much.

My friend Barry and I were talking about this when you and John was trying this out. Although 1/4000 shutter speeds were achieved, the t.1 duration of a B1600 is 1/600. The t.5 duration is still 1/1800. The shutter was opening and closing too fast so you were clipping the light. I think staying at 1/200 and 1/250 is still ideal, unless you can sync the PW to fire exactly when the shutter opens. The new AB MAX improves for its t.5 duration but not much for the t.1, it MIGHT be possible to pull off a shutter speed around 1/2000-1/2500 without much loss of light.

I would think the new PW on the speedlites would be fine, their flash duration is quite a bit shorter than the strobes.

AB Max will work different. At full power it will be fast and taper off, then get even faster one stop later, taper off a bit, be even faster one stop later, and taper off down to 1/128. Looks like they put the 1600, 800, and 400 capacitors to do this, and improved all three slightly.

Shark's Cove it is. I will try for a spot that overlooks the Cove. If not then whatever I can find.

UPDATE: look for two white canopies siamesed together and not a blue one and a white one. My blue one broke one of its legs last month and I forgot about that. I'll try to fix it today and bring it anyway just in case.

Norris, I have plates,( you know, the BIG ones) ;) forks and cups and I will bring them with me.

Wow! Chris you are rockin! The tickets are $78 plus $9.20 per ticket convenience charge or some fancy name for the Ticket Master charge. The floor is general seating so it will be crazy down there. We want the risers or lodges, then nose bleed last.

I hereby nominate myself the offical POTN Meet XX Camp Sitter. I will stay and keep an eye on the gear if any of you experience the need to explore the surrounding countryside 'cuz I already been there done that in this area. Plus I need to catch up on some rest time that I haven't seen in awhile.

My laptop is good for four hours uptime and it has a hood and sits on a tripod so the screen can be viewed in direct sunlight if need be.

Also, if anybody wants to mess with direct view function from camera to laptop for real time dead on focusing I'll have it set up that way in the morning.

Yeah, had a great time even though I was there only a few hours. Sorry I missed John and David but it was great to meet Wendo and his son and An as well. Sorry I didn't get to talk to you too much before you had to go, An. Hope you got to try a lot of lenses out.

I seriously need to stay away from Wendo's 600mm before I start thinking about selling my car to buy one. Managed to avoid Norris' 50L but I'm guessing I'll see it again soon.

Good times as usual, great sunset that we kinda missed, but still got some great after sunset pics. I got some time to relax a bit before a really long day tomorrow so that was nice. Now it's time to sleep--gotta be at work by 7am tomorrow morning.

Man, I really wanted to put my new EF 85mm f/1.8 USM and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM to the test at this last meet, but had to move furniture and stuff to keep the wife happy. But at least the new LCD TV is setup now...just gotta order the digital cable and HDTV. Gotta keep the wife happy.
