I have been shooting motocross for about a year and a half now and am looking to move up. I started off with a Canon Digital Rebel, and have currently been shooting with a Canon 40D, but feel its time to move up.
I will be purchasing an 70/200 2.8 IS lens and would like to know what would be the best body buy for under $1,000 would be. I have been using the 40D with a kit 28/135 IS lens and like the pics but feel they could be better. Should I stick with a 40D or go with something better? I may be willing to go up on price of a body if its going to be worth the difference in quality. Most pictures will be posted online only however will be for sale to be printed.
Conditions are often sunny and a bit dusty. I would also like to get more into night shots. I currently have 1 580EXII but feel I need another one for low light conditions.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brad

Reliable real-world prices from trusted sellers have the Digital Rebel line at under US $1,000. (http://www.robertsimaging.com/cmCatalog.jsp?cmd=A&typid=1&catid=S325)
Probably, the lens upgrade will be all you'll need. Get used to the new lens with the current body before making a change.

Stick with the 40D as the only worthwhile upgrade from that is a 1D of some sort. The weak link in your set-up is almost certainly the 28-135.

I agree - stick with the 40D, it's a very capable camera. Instead use your money on good lenses.

+3 on the stick with the 40D You will not get anything better in your price range and would need to move up to the 1d mk3 or something like that for fast fps.

I agree with all them and you are gonna love having that lens.

I love my 1D mkII.
Good used copies can be found right about your price range.
Stellar AF on it.
8.5 fps seems crazy fast.
Not saying there is anything wrong with your 40D though.
Another nice thing with the 1 is the weather sealed, it was intermitant rain at my last event and as i just kept shooting the other photog keept putting his rain cover on and off.....not sure how many shots he missed fussing with that stupid thing.

If he had half a brain he'd have the cover on from the start of the day if there is even the slightest chance of rain. Plus, the 1 series is only weather sealed with selected lenses. If you're not using one of them, then you might as well forget about "weather sealing".

Thanks for all of the info. I'm going to stick with the 40D and get the 70/200 f2.8l IS lens.
