As the title says, I would be grateful for any comments on this picture - pro or con.

Nice shot. I like the composition of the image except the step throws me off a little. It appears to be off center from the doorway and so for the rest of the image to be "symmetrical" it automatically caught my eye. That would be my only critique. The step is distracting to my eye, however it is an overall beautiful image!

Thank you for your comments colby. Bearing in mind what you said about the step, would it be better with the step cropped out like this?

Love it.
The distractions for me are the sharp lines where black meets door and window frame,
and the little thing on the floor. When it first loads on my screen, the picture doesn't
show the bottom step and the design just above it, and looks pretty good that way as well.
edit: drat, your edit got up before I posted ! cool

I like the steps in there. I'd try photoshopping them so they are centered with the rest of the image....

I like the original photo. The asymmetry of the step works. When I first saw the photo I dragged it to my desktop (it's a Mac thing ;)) so I could view it in its entirety. It's contemplative.
Imho, leave it alone. :D

The steps are fine as they are. My only qualm is the overexposed scene on the other side. I guess it does lend a sort of dreamy quality to the seated figure. The sky is okay, but the building behind, especially, is pretty washed out. Hard to get a good single exposure on this type of thing.

What a stunner! I like the cropped version better. I think the overexposure does add to the photo by making it surreal and dreamy. I love how the clouds fit into the window.
The only unfortunate problem is the thing on the tiles. I would just clone it out.

Lovely image Roy....outside of the little thing in the first space, its wonderfully composed.

Thank you so much everyone for your comments and suggestions - I'm off now to clone out the 'thing in the foreground'.

Although I think the idea of a frame within a frame is good, when I think meditation, I think simplicity....zen.

IMO doing the B/W conversion and crop loses the dimension created by the doorway and it feels like some of the depth is lost as well.

I like this! I do prefer it without the step, but that is ultimately your preference:)

great shot. really love the setting and the composition. Only thing you could change perhaps is the color of the lighting... I think a bit more yellow with a little more contrast would make this picture from AA to AAA ;)

I like most things about this image, except the paleness of the courtyard and far side of the building, and the sky which just looks wrong to me... the colour, the contrast at the edges, not even sure really but just doesn't work. I'd be curious to see the original... might help me grasp what's wrong, but no worries if you want to keep it to yourself. Cheers, Tony

I like the step there in the foreground, it leads me into the spaces.

I love it. It's very layered and the love the multiple frame within a frame. Well done! I'd love this on my wall...awesome image!

Hi Roy,
Thanks for posting the original. Given the hue of the sky isn't from the shot, I'd suggest the blue you've picked is too green, dark saturated to fit in with the delicacy of the building below.

I made no effort to be accurate with the area I selected for the hue change. You did a good job - removing various red areas evident in the original, but the transition from building to sky still doesn't quite look right... tricky one.
In a way, I think cloning the building up to cover the opposite side would be more flattering than the sky, and easier to get looking right, but you may feel that's a disservice to the place this was taken.
Cheers, Tony

Very nice image, blue skies usually go from light to dark as you get higher in the atmosphere not the other way around. Not sure which is the finish product but if the horizon lines are not square near the bottom of the frame (where it's most pronouce) the image will feel tilted.
