Hello everyone,
This question is directed at all the 1D series camera owners. I have had my 1D mkII for a few months now, and I found that the "select" button (from the row of buttons to the left of the LCD) has gotten "mushy"....it still works, but it has lost it's "springiness" or its "snap"....not sure how to discribe it, but its action (compared to the other buttons) feels soft. All the other buttons still have the same feel as they did when I bought the cam.
Of course, unless the button actually fails there isn't really any problem, but it worries me anyways...too anal? Yeah, I guess.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this sort of thing.
Input highly appreciated!
Thanks.

I've had my 1DMKII for about 10 months now and have put some 8-9,000 images through it and I have not found the problem that you are describing. If you've only had it for a few months and it fails it should be covered under warranty.

I have had my 1Ds for about 9 months now and I notice no change in button behaviour.

I just went over the 10,000 mark in shutter releases (it requires a reset after 9999 releases) and haven't had any wear problems. The 1DM2 is awesome!

MkII is fine,. and I had the pleasure of Owning CahrlesU's hand me down 1D "classic" for some time,. it was MUCH older than any MkII on the streets,. (about 3 years older) and all the buttons still functioned flawlessly.
In fact I have never read of a complaint of this particular problem.
If it does fail,. I am sure Canon can repair it without issue.
HOWEVER:
You may not want to wait for a failure,... these buttons are weather sealed,. and as such there is a sealed rubber diaphram between the button that you press,. and the physical actuator on the other sied of that diaphram.
If on this one button the "feel" is so different,. it is not inconceiveable that the weather sealing may have become compromised in some way.
As odd and paranoid as it may seem,. it might be worth having Canon take a look at it,. if weather and dust sealing is important to you.

I have had my 1D MK II for 11 months & 20,000 + frames. No ascertainable change in anything.

Does it seem like it's "sticking" and taking it's time coming back up? If so, maybe you spilled something there like a soda or something. My camera is working fine and doesn't any mushy buttons but my telephone at work has a key like that because a drop or two from a soda can landed on one of the keys a while back.

I've had mine since November and all the buttons are working fine. I agree with CDS, get Canon to take a look at it before it fails.

Well, thank you all.
There seems nothing wrong with the seal around the button....and it isn't contaminated in any way.
It is as if the spring responsible for the button's pop-up action, has weakened.
I wonder if it could get worse?
thanks.
