i have a great opportunity to shoot a star studded party TONIGHT. i would be working the press line at arrivals and eventually interior shots of the party.
with my gear list below, can i have suggestios and advice on what set up i should use for both press line and interior shots.
i'm pretty comfortable with my interior work, but the press line i've not done. most press lines are pretty well lit, but i'm wondering if you guys would suggest i use fill flash with 70-200 f/4?
any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If I were you, I'd use the 17-40 and flash for the press line, depending on how close you will be. I've seen press handle the press line w/ the 16-35. If you aren't that close, then yes, throw on the 70-200 and flash. Good luck w/ the event.

thanks Kevin! my thoughts exactly. i plan to get there early to survey the press line and see how far my subjects will be from me.

How close are you to the venue? Why not check it out before the day of the event. Things are going to get chaotic the day of. Do a little recon and it will probably save you a huge headache later.

i have two questions....
1) since i'm being paid by the magazine who sent me, would it be out of line to let another publication use my images? they weren't able to get into the pressroom, so they asked me if they could use my images.
2) if so, would it be fair to charge them to use my images. if yes, what's a fair price? is it per image or a base price?

Depends on the magazine that sent you. I know for the magazine that I shoot for, if they're sending me they own the images. I'm a staff photog though.

Ahh, the Conga Room event from earlier this week. So glad I didnt go... As far as giving your images to another magazine to use, that's kind of a grey area. If you do, certainly make sure you get paid for them. Don't give your images away no matter what. Best piece of advice I could give someone starting out in this business.

i know to some photogs, it's a private matter on how much they charge....but can someone give me an idea on what price range is should be charging per image and/or set of images from an event.

It honestly depends on the size of the publication and the size of the image they are going to use.
For example. I had a 2 page spread in Playboy that went for $1400. A half page in People gets me $475. It all depends on the publication mate.

That was a tough one to get credentialed for. Lots of outlets trying to get in. You didn't miss much.
