1- this picture just made me laugh

I tried the shot with the Hummer on the close up side but the picture was just two unbalanced for my liking

I had difficulty creating blur that realistically made them look like they were going to hit. anyone out there care to try?

2- minicouper cornering at 65 mph... this shot was fun
I was in a 96 taurus, which is almost as low as that cooper...wish i could have been even a little lower--reminds me of the italian job

Yes I hope they both blow up, both very stupid cars.
Wow talk about a worthless post. Oh and Creating motion blur with that angle would be a job and a half on photoshop.

Sorry, I am not a fan. By the position of the cars in the first shot it looked like they were gona go head to head and that was the result I was wishin for. This is the feeling this pic gave to me thats all.

Rich, I like the first photo. The juxtaposition of the two vehicles gives an amusing David & Goliath effect.
The second photo does nothing for me.
I like the Mini, It reminds of the Austin Cooper S, a hot little beastie I much admired in my youth.
The Hummer is an awesome ride, my soon-to-be son-in-law has one and it is something. I would not buy one for myself even if I did have Bill Gates money ;-)

Skip, I like the MINI too. I had one. This shot is of a Classic. . . mine is the red Cooper S at the top left of the picture. They are fun little cars, pretty fast, and can maneuver like nothing else on the road (in that price range). I hope this shot looks ok, as it's from my wife's non Canon camera. . . sorry ;) . I just had to step up and defend the little car. BTW, I no longer own it, as I was finally able to get something I wanted before looking at the MINI.

LOL MSRP for a Hummer $51,995 + MSRP for minicooper $17,950 = $70,000

I get 50 bucks a week [im a student]

70000 divided by 50? 1400 weeks = 27 years to amass that money to crash those 2 cars(hope im not still a student in 2 years)

Thanks for the photo John. Yes, they are nifty little cars. The photo came out fine for a foreigner. Sometimes you just have to run what you brung.

No, not in Great Britain. This shot was actually taken in Winter Park Florida. We had a MINI meet at a trendy little restaraunt for brunch. We probably had a dozen or more new MINIs, and just a couple of the older classic Mini Coopers show up.

Hey Rich, look at which side of the street the cars are parked. The Florida license plate could also be a hint. Nice post though.

Thanks Skip. I agree. I don't normally do that, but the picture was appropriate for the thread. We are a multi-camera family, and I must admit, she often shoots as good or better than I do. . . . . :o.

Are you saying it's the mechanic or the tools
My wife & I both have 20Ds and she is much better than I:oops:

That yellow "classic" posted above looks great and reminds me that I had a few Cooper S machines. 20 years ago! I remember the send off after my wedding reception, driving off on our honeymoon in my best brick...

The most I ever owned at one time was 3. I used to do a lot of mini club stuff. I remember selling my beloved Pentax K1000 to buy some more Mini stuff...

Good question. I don't know what it is. She shoots 2 to 3 shots for every shot that I take. I think that just gives her better odds. I guess she's shooting a machine gun, and. . . . I just have a Canon. . I can't believe I said that. . . now I need a drink.

I think this was one of the last of my K1000 pics. We used to fold up the little baby stroller and jam it between that chrome bar at the front and the grille.

Here's me with my first daughter. I have a granddaughter that age now.

When we got to 3 kids in 1986 we had to sell the last Mini. I suppose we could go back to a Mini now we only have 2 kids at home now... they're great fun!

Thanks for bringing it all back. The noise of the gearbox and Weber carb, the steering pull under power, the v high comp ratio that rattled the windows around the street, the red line around 6000rpm or so, the burning backfiring when backing off for a corner, the racing harness, the handbrake spins..

This pic is the earliest I can find of me in a Cooper S -- 1978.

I hope I'm not making anyone here feel a tad young...

Carzee, thanks for the contributions. . . those are classic. We owe it all to John Cooper. I hope rich_yau doesn't mind us abusing his thread with these little buggers. . . . . is that proper English?  .

Anyone else have an old mini pics in their album? I have scanned heaps of old prints (crudy scans but who cares). I have lots of Minis and bushwalking memories on transparencys but can't afford to scan them yet.

Ohh I just had another look at the interior pic with my daughter:

I can see that steering wheel - it was 10.5in leather - a special 'lil thing. And I had to work hard to convince the owner of that french polished wooden dash (original part) to sell it too me.

Ahh, memories.

Sit down young laddies while I reminisce...

Now that Mini had ruby red interior and beautiful red carpet. It was so nice. But if it could speak for itself! I must tell you a story.

One lovely girlfriend with long strait yellow hair (down to her hips) had one too many drinks on what was our first date.. no maybe 2 drinks too many... and she requested me to take her home, "Right NOW!".

The fresh air outside in the carpark didn't help her... but lo and behold, cometh the highway and things were much worse:

"I'm feeling dizzy" she said.
"You'll be right, 5 minutes more."
"I'm going to spew."
"No you're okay."
"I'm.." Her eyes glaze over.
"You're okay, your mum is real close, 5 more minutes."
"I need air. I'll just wind down the window a little bit."

Its dark, she doesn't know where the handle is. I give her clues and keep driving, desperate like. My palms are sweating.

I glance over to her. No good, maybe a bit too late. I shout out "Wind down the window and be sick out the window!!"

She starts winding it down and the effort of the stone-age-stiff 1960 designed window winding handle triggers her 'gut reaction'. She is 'in the throes' of erupting. She puts her head out the window a bit, actually she puts her forehead out. Sticky liquid crap flows all over her, her lap and the door interior. The wind rushing in the window (I am in full panic and exceeding the speed limit now) pulls her long fine gorgeous hair -like a black hole effect- from behind her to infront of her and it tries to absorb the available nutrients from the door, the safety belt and the stupid mini size windowglass. Lucky it is dark.

The wind splatters the good stuff around the back seat, roof lining, her jeans etc, and the other 3 or 4 litres fills up the stupidest Cooper accessory - the tray for maps and gloves and stuff fitted along the lowest part of the door, on the interior. Guess what! Ugh.

So we get to her house and I carry her to her parents at the front door and I made a quick getaway with masses of crying in my ears. Plus I have now got the good stuff on me because there was hardly a clean spot on her. She just kept her eyes closed and sort of moaned. The wrong sort of moaning, believe me.

Now that was 'all a hot summer night'... and it was followed by a equally hot summer's day. I had not been able to sleep after getting home and having a shower -- I was worried about the girl's brothers, and so I drank more. Suffering a hangover etc, I slept on and off thru the next day until about 6pm when I got up, hungry and very dry.

I suddenly remembered to do something about the poor brick (Mini) because I realised I had another date in a couple of hours.

Well, the poor Mini had been sitting there on the lawn all day in 38degrees Celcius heat (must be over a 105F). Now, you gotta realise... I was unprepared and inexperienced, I was not trained, you know, I was only young and had never ever experienced something like that toxic level smell before. This was all new to me - I'm saying that it was a scar on my senses - it got to me deep inside - I actually tasted it - when I put in the key and opened up that poor Mini.

With my hand over my mouth I looked inside; little Lake Upchuck had condensed a bit, or maybe it was low tide -- could be I was hallucinating. I needed a drink but I couldn't move my legs. I sort of went limp in my joints. I sat down in the nearest shade and went white. It was hot and I had goosebumps like I was cold inside. I probably dry reached for 5 minutes and broke out in sweat. What had I done to deserve this?

What to do? Do I call the AAA, the NRMA, who? Then like a hammer on my head, I thought of my ID. Where had I left my wallet? You guessed it. Little Lake Upchuck!. Oh *&^%$#! When I had half carried her out of the party and loaded her into the Mini to take her home, I had paused to try and get a kiss on the front seat etc, and I'd unloaded my pockets, including my wallet and my cufflinks into the Cooper's 'Handy Little Tray' along the low part of the door...

Later I thought I'd use the garden hose and just give the Mini a bit of a rinse out. I used that hose for 15 minutes and then some hot water and soap. That solution (pun) was only temporary, and I just couldn't bring myself to sit inside the Mini again so soon. So I used a taxi on the date that night. On Monday I drove to work and people complained about my smell. So the following Saturday I worked hours on it and removed the interior carpet....

i think the mini has gotten more off-road use than the hummer, just check out the dirt on the mini, while the hummers all spit shine clean! :D

They're still raced a lot and amusingly enough, they handle better and are quicker round a circuit than the "modern" BMW "mini" by several seconds

Cadwell, I knew you would come through. Great photo. I would expect the vintage Mini to be quicker, less mass to haul around. Todays version was built with all kinds of wierd regulations to follow. The old ones were simple and effective. I guess the call them bricks for more reasons than their shape. :-)

Vgood blur. Best yet. Maybe cut the mini out and move it closer into the Hummer, soften the background trees, then tilt the whole photo 3 degrees and recrop to give the appearance the snap was taken in a rush too.

The number plate on the yellow mini is definitely British, and that 'rare' Ford Taurus is a Mondeo (one of the best selling cars in Europe).

I can't see why everyone else thought you meant the original pic, Hummer's are as rare as rocking horse sh** in the UK.

I say actually run the cars into each other at high speed and get some true action shots as they collide!! (provided of course that both drivers are wearing seatbelts!) That would eliminate the need for photoshop!:D
