Are these worth it? I'm worried about info on my CF cards getting damaged erased while traveling, going through airport security xray, etc. Something like this will shield the cards from "charges" that would damaged them. Worth it?

You can put a CF card through the wash and it'll still work. If $20 gets you piece of mind, why not buy it. Keep in mind that you would now have one thing to lose/have stolen and lose every photo you took.

It is worth every penny. Noone should be without one.

used it for travel extensively (5months +). It works. I never had to worry about the cards.

Have you personally confirmed this?

Does anyone make a case with the same specs but holding 8 cards or so instead of 4? Most of these cases I see hold 4 cards, why not have one case (space-saving) for all your cards...

Don't need to try it personally...I read it on the Internet so it must be true. :D

I had a CF card (and not a SanDisk either), go through the washer, dryer, and get ironed.... Worked fine and I still used it. (note to self, NEVER LEAVE CARDS IN PANTS POCKETS).........
Cards safes are fine. I had a Pelican Case for my SD cards, only problem is in actually losing it. That would be a real problem.
I use these for CF cards
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/240325-REG/Hakuba_DMSPCF4_DMSP_CF4_CF_Card_Case.html
Really nice too. Pelican is only $3 more (but a bit on the slippery side and a bit fatter than the Hakuba)

For SD cards I use
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/528642-REG/Pelican_PC0910B_0910_Memory_Card_Case.html
You can take a LOT of pics with 8 16GB cards (I know, I keep buying hard drives to store them on)...

I keep my cards in the Think Tank Pixel Pocket Rocket (http://www.thinktankphoto.com/ttp_product_PxlPcktRckt.php). Holds 10 cards, provides as much protection as I'll ever need, and has a leash so I can anchor it to my bag. They also make a model that holds 4x CF and 3x SD cards (http://www.thinktankphoto.com/ttp_product_PeeWeePPR.php).

Thanks, I really like the pelican one and the hakuba one over the one I originally posted.

Same here -- I am more likely to loose the container -- ThinkTank allows me to clip it inside my case or for weddings I clip it onto my belt ---

I do keep all of my cards in a pocket but just so I know where they are and which ones are used and which are available, nothing more. As long you keep them from dropping to a hard surface or getting kicked they should be fine.
And putting them in a case and dropping them still gives you the same chance that they'll be DOA, there is no cushion in there, specially the one from the OP.

Keep in mind the Pelican is not waterproof, it is waterresistant. Big differece, but not critical for the casual user (or even professional wedding photog, etc). Makes a bigger difference to outdoor photographers, etc.

As a photojournalist my CF cards have been through hurricanes, floods, inside structure fires, blizzards ice storms, sand storms, a few dozen riots, a combat zone, washed a few times, dried in the dryer a few times, dropped in a tank of C-41 (I got confused and tried using C-41 on my CF cards, oops), been dropped from a catwalk to a basketball court below, stepped on, chewed on by a weimaraner, passed through Secret Service x-ray covering POTUS and The White House as well as airport security more times than I can count having flown over 1,000,000 miles since 2005...and most of all survived life in my house with three kids.
I am pretty sure I don't need a 'card safe' for the CF cards.
As for airport security erasing your CF cards, it is a myth...read here:

As Fish said the security scanners WILL NOT hurt your CF cards, I fly quite a bit with my gear and have never had a problem.

Didn't say dropped in the Amazon river, it floats and it's bright yellow! ;)
I agree most people won't need a Gepe Cardsafe Extreme.

It floats if it's open when you drop it, and the cards won't fall out even then? My PPR is clipped to my bag or vest - I'd have to lose that as well for me to lose my cards.

The cards will not fall out even when it's wide open. It still floats in that case as well, though the cards will get wet. Clipping to self is a viable option of course, but not always practical for all people in all situations (for example, on a boat in the Amazon, or Canyoning with dry bags, etc). All I'm saying is that there are different strokes for different folks. In fact, I'm looking to get one of the Pixel Pocket Rockets from Think Tank, but not for use in situations like this:

I just picked one up yesterday, it's pretty slick. It holds all my CFs and SDs and is still compact and sturdy.

I have one. Mainly wanted something to seal out water. It works beautifully to keep my cards dry. Haven't tried the washing machine thing though..

This memory card / battery wallet from Tamrac (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/248147-REG/Tamrac_MXS536801_MXS5368_Memory_Battery.html) is what I use. I keep four cards and three BP51x batteries in mine.
The wallet is not waterPROOF, but definitely would keep rain off the contents for a while. I have never run into a situation where water protection is a necessity, though. If I were to carry photo equipment down river in a raft I would probably have all of my equipment in a Pelican case that would float if need be.

I own the Pelican one and use it when Im hiking or camping as all my equipment is insured but the images I have taken can never be retrieved if something happens to those CF cards. Here is my review on it: LINK (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=551598)

this cases are a bit over priced - find one on ebay for $5 bucks (including shipping) it'll work fine to keep the cards together and from "physical" breakage...

Sadly; yes..
Twice.
Both times in my Paintball pants made of very tough nylon. I never felt them before putting them into the washing machine.
