First try out shooting with my 75-300mm. D1 Grand Prix Professional Drifting competition in Anaheim, CA. I was behind a fence, so I guess I'll show you the ones I like best that dont really have the fence showing.

I think they came out decent for being behind a fence with a little xs and 75-300mm

You have some good captures there. The fourth and seventh ones are my favourites.

Not bad at all - esp for your first time at a motorsport.

Ok I mean no malice by saying this but it sounds like you're saying thats the best you can do. If you tell yourself that those pics are decent then you are setting your standards too low.

Don't take this the wrong way. I applaud you for getting out and having a go.

I'm certainly no pro. In fact I've really only taken my photography seriously for about 18 months. When I started I was getting shots not much better than you have posted.

The first pics I posted on this forum were drifting shots and though many of them captured good action, technically the pics were "average" being soft (OOF) etc.

Make sure your aperture is set such that you have got a reasonable DOF to play with say min f/8 but prefferably f/11 or so.

Also if your lense struggles for reach then walk to different parts of the track to see if you can get the cars more in frame. I noticed most of the shots you posted were from the same location.

Like I said I don't consider my shots to be of the highest standard when compared to some of the brilliant shots I see posted on this forum, but most of what I've learned to make my photos better has come from taking advice and reading posts on this forum.

I'm my own worst critic. I dont have one image I have taken with my cameras that I can't find a fault in. I always want to do better.

I hope you will be inspired to do the same.

great series of pics, especially for your first time out.
i really like #5, the dark green Rx7 about to lose its bumper

300daz is right, with a bit of practice, and reading the forums here, asking for critique, yo u can get a lot better.

This set is way better than my first set of drifting pictures, although i was lucky enough to link up with a forum, that 90% of my local drifters were members of and i got invited to all sorts of drift events, i met the people at the track and started shooting normal racing too - although im only still shooting grass roots level stuff my pictures have improve a lot since i started, and i am getting published occasionally too.

keep practicing, keep learning, and you will get better

although these are great for being shot from a spectator area
