Hi guys, first try at the drags on saturday evening/night.

I broke broke the first rule when taking photos, NEVER put the camera down :oops:
I missed the biggest engine blow up I have ever seen when Amanda Sheperd blew her engine so badly, the blower ripped apart throwing the blades down the track, the rocker covers were ripped off, etc, etc. and the camera was safely packed away :rolleyes:

I was quite surprised that when it got dark, the 50D and 100-400 still gave me some decent shots, even at ISO 1600, although my keeper rate went down a fair bit

I like the first,the exaust flames show the power of the machines,ive got to go to santa pod uk to see these machines up close,i would love to get really close to one at the start and try to get some pictures:D

Oh, you just gotta go!! You can not begin to explain the sensation of being close to them when they launch in pairs, nothing in motorsport compares.

Here are a couple more. The last was when it was dark. It was a struggle, and I have never shot anything like this in such dark conditions but for this relative photog newb, I'm happy.

Reading your sig Kelly and seeing "nice job" is a nice buzz for me :D
I had a silly grin on my face as I read your reply, I have plenty "rear tyre shots" too from the top fuelers! They just accelerate so damn fast. I have some sequences that start off ok, but each photo has less and less car in frame! It was a huge challenge for me, but so much fun and I'm stinging for the next time they come back. If only I could get down and more front on to them without the wall getting in the way. As it was I stuck to shooting the left lane.

That is a what used to be called a Stationwagon in the last shot. BTW...great shots! Like you said, nothing else in motorsports compares, they are awesume!!
