I nearly went down the D70 road but ended up getting the 300D for future lens purchases. Some good competition can only mean good things for us (consumers) and I'm glad that Nikon have pulled something out of the hat and thrown it into the ring.

Nikon D50 comes in silver and black:
Just one more proof that Nikon is always a step behind Canon ;-)

What's there to ante up against? Nikon's announcing 2 new 6MP cameras 2 years after they released the 100D, also a 6MP. If someone really wants to take 144 images in a row more power to them. They still don't have ISO 100 or 3200. To me it looks like they've fallen flat with this one, unless Nikon has more cameras coming out.

Ultimately, anything good that comes out of nOINK will benefit Canon users and vice versa.
I've long since lost my objectivity on the nOINK vs. Canon debate, but I'm always pleased to see the competition doing things that prod Canon to keep raising the bar.

Let's face it, some people will buy it just because of the name (after all, Paul Simon wrote the name into a hit song - Canon doesn't have that! ). That works for me, as it keeps some of the people with more money than brains away from me. :o (kidding). So Canon will have to counter with yet another outstanding offering!
Have Fun,

I vote for price drop on 30D, or 20D.

Considering how tight-wrapped Canon was with the 350D and how they backhand slapped everyone in the industry with its SUDDEN announcement and even more lightning fast delivery to the market in mass quantities, I dont think Nikon had a clue that their new D50 would still be second best to the new Canon.
Now who wants to start a pool on when this puppy will ACTUALLY hit store shelves :P
