If the is blown or dull gray ... would you add a light blue (or some color) backgrown in PP or just leave it as is? This is for BIF

I think it really depends on the shot. If the bird itself is outstanding enough, then the BG probably doesn't matter all that much. And you don't want a mismatch between the sky (looking like a sunny day) and the bird. SOME color, mild with a gradient perhaps, might not hurt.

Jim, I don't know about "blown", that pretty much spoils my photos, but dull gray or white, I try to add some blue. My example, not a BIF, but illustrates my approach.

I think it is an improvement, YMMV. I much prefer some green in the background, of course, tough to get for BIF.

Shots like that I would add some heavy vignette to cover the sky as much as possible. I get shots like that especially with BIF shots shooting up at the bird.
