Okay, I dont usually shoot fashion, but a friend of a friend has asked if i wouldnt mind shooting some of his university project piece for him. We agreed on a price and it looks like our shoot is going ahead. I ll be hiring a studio with a standard lighting kit, but im a bit of a greenhorn when it comes studio lighting. Rather than innefectively attempt to describe what sort of look i am trying to replicate, ill just post a quick image:

I guess what im trying to acheve is a soft, slightly overexposed look, there appears to be alot of ambient lighting which is topped up with flash. Would this kind of look be achieved using continuous or strobe lighting? if so how would you recommend setting up my lights?

Any help is most appreciated, Thankyou in advance for you time.

First, thing is shoot with the lights as close as possible to keep the shadows as soft as possible. If this is your first time using a full studio focus on placing your key light to pretty close to the axis of the lens so your shadows are falling behind the subjects. Get that first and then play with moving them around. A lot of the look your are describing is done in post processing so make sure you expose properly in the first place. The overexposed look is just a matter of finding any number of PS actions to get the look you want.
