Hi All
I've been asked to photograph a work mates granddaughters christening. I am up for it but I was wondering if anyone out there has any tips for me, what shots to take etc.
I am sorry if this has been asked before, I'm a newbie.

Hi Alan
I have a few on my blog in the 'families and occasion shoots' section. You have to search down a bit but there are three or four on there.
I would suggest doing any group shots before the christening - they often involve kids and as christenings are usually scheduled right in the middle of nap time they can often be very cranky. Good to get them out of the way first. I usually find that it is a few family shots and something with the god parents.
If it is a private christening you will probably be able to shoot all the way through and there are lots of great opportunities. If the child is being christened as one of many children at a normal service you might be much more limited - worth finding out first and if there are any rules the church want you to observe. I have been to a christening where there was a no photography rule and that is definitely worth knowing about beforehand!
You may also want something faster lenswise as you may well be asked not to use flash and so if you are shooting indoors maybe a fast 50mm would be a good investment. I think amazon has the 1.8 for about £70.
