Around Auckland

[Wazza]

Been busy shooting family and motor-racing recently, and haven't had much time for shooting my normal landscapes, and beach sunsets. In fact the last beach sunrise/sunset I shot properly, was 5th March! That's a long time for me.

Auckland City at night, as viewed from Devonport. The port intense light on left is distracting, however they're currently in the process of getting less lights, and ones which actually go down, rather than disperse into the night sky. Should make for better City shots from across the harbour. :)

Need to get out again, and shoot more scenes. I miss it.

Thanks everyone. Just thought a couple of these shots, are slightly different to what I've often posted. That eerie walker shot, was shot quite a distance away, 45min after sunset, with a very odd colour sky, using the 300mm Sigma.

Yeah, cool structure indeed. Always been fascinated with the Sky Tower. I used to draw concepts of it in around 1995/1996 I believe when the design was being finalised. I think it's now the most photographed NZ icon now.

All we need now, is a larger building. Maybe something pushing 400+metres. Although, being an earthquake/volcanic prone zone. Good luck in creating something able to withstand large tremors. Sky Tower is apparently designed for Mag. 8.0. Yet the chance of having a 8-10 in Auckland and New Zealand is rather high. Especially with all the activity recently around the Pacific Ring of Fire. :(

The eerie walker was when the tripod wasn't setup properly.
I had to pretty much force it in place with my hands, and it was 1/2 sec shutter, ISO800, no timer. Had I known he would turn up there, I could have set the 10 sec timer.

Couple more, first one showing the front end of Museum at 81mm. The zoomed in shot was 300mm.

I think I must be the only person in Auckland that can't stand the sky tower, the city was so much better without it. But in saying that your photos make it look alot better than most people see it
