Hi .
Look at Lenses for the Rebel XT Wondering what the difference is between Canon EF 75-300mm (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4687&item=7509473910&tc=photo)and Canon EF 75-300mm IS USM (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4687&item=7508293560&tc=photo)

Thanks
Ron

Price and IS (image stabilisation). If you consider these two lenses, include the 100-300mm USM in your options. It is superior in optics and auto focus, and should be your choice unless you require IS.

Before you consider buying these on eBay check them out at B & H. The IS version at B & H costs the same as this auction, and given the choice I would buy from B & H if the prices are the same, or even if B & H is a few $$ higher. There is also a $15 rebate on this lens right now. It just kills me when I see a lens, or any quipment, sold on eBay for a higher price than you would pay for the same thing at B &H.

I own the IS version, good in low light, however not a sharp lens after 200mm. I am planning to move it along, the 100-300USM and the 70-200 f4 are two options I am considering. Rumor has it a cropped image on the 70-200 at 200mm is better than an image on the 75-300 @ 300mm.

The other main difference is weight, the IS is bulkier and heavier.

Sigma have a 70-300 which is pretty good too, no IS. I had it, it gave nice pictures, I returned it because the F4-F5.6 was too slow for what I needed.

I totally agree! I shopped around a bit and was pleasantly surprised by B&H's prices! Much better than Wolf Camera! When I ordered the EF 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, there was over $100 difference in price! And that is on a $400 lense!

I absolutely agree with Pete!

I have the 70-200 F4L which can usually be found resonably priced either @ dell.com or b&h; I bought mine through dell.com and with 'normal' ground shipping got it the next day.

The 70-200 L glass I own produces WAY better pix than the Sigma -300 and the canon non IS-300 that I have tried. I am definitely a believer in L glass after using the 70-200 F4L and borrowing a 100-400 IS L.

I think the choices are the 70-200 F4L or 100-400 IS L depending on the budget...
