View Full Version : Sorry if this has been covered: Dedicated Macro Lens or Tubes?

I used to own the Canon 100mm macro lens. I basically sucked with it, but I suck with everything.

Now I bought the Nikon equivalent, though it's got VR (IS) so maybe that will help. Maybe.

I also owned an entire set of extension tubes which I got half decent results with, and I mean half.

So, if you macro shooters had your druthers/choice, would you opt for the 100mm macro, the 180mm macro, or extension tubes?

I'd be greedy and go for a 100mm macro and extension yubes to get to 2:1 magnification.

MDJAK,
If I could only have one...
I would any day take the 100mm macro lens, it gives more working room then using extension tubes and its alot cheaper and lighter then the 180mm. If you go with LordV suggestions the 100 with extension tubes it will give you more magnification with the tubes then the 180 ;)
