View Full Version : IXUS 990 IS ordered, SD 970 IS arrived - does it matter?

Hi. I ordered a Canon IXUS 990 IS from what appeared to be a British web site, however a confirmation email made me suspicious and I went back to the site and explored it more, discovering that despite it's prices being in £'s etc. and all the names of the cameras being the British ones, it was actually an American company.

I emailed and said that what I was ordering was the IXUS 990 IS made for the British market, and that I didn't want an American made version, please could they confirm that they were sending what I'd ordered as illustrated on the website (and what it was named as) etc. I heard nothing from them at all, so followed up that email with another 3 saying the same sort of thing and had no responses from them at all.

Anyway, what arrived today was an SD 970 IS. It has no paperwork or letter at all with it, nothing to say how to return it. What I'm wondering and would welcome advice on, is, should I return it to them, and get my bank to chase them for the money, or, do you think I'm worrying unnecessarily and that it'll be fine and they are in fact the same camera, just with different names?

I'd be very grateful for advice, and will willingly disclose the name of the website I got from, if that's allowed.

Thanks.

The IXUS 990 IS and SD 970 IS are identical except for the name printed on the camera and box. Your real issue would be with getting warranty support in the UK, should you need it.

The IXUS 990 IS and SD 790 IS are identical except for the name printed on the camera and box. Your real issue would be with getting warranty support in the UK, should you need it.

Is that a typo, where you've put the SD 790 IS? What they've sent is an SD 970 IS.

It says Powershot SD970 IS Digital Elph.

Sorry, right - SD970 and Ixus 990 are the same. Fixed.
