I took this a few months back. Nothing too stunning but I kind of like it. Comment/advice are very much so welcome. http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Kyle-

Night time head light / tail light streaks are some of my favorite shots. I'm working on cleaning up one of those I took while on a trip to Huntington Beach.

How long was your exposure? What settings / equipment did you use?

It would have been great if you could have timed the shot for oncoming head lights in the opposite side of the street. But, you can't always get traffic to cooperate with you. ;)

Have you considered experimenting with different crops / aspect ratios to emphasize different features of the image?

Very nice..
I like it.. although I think oncoming white lights makes it more dramtic.

I have always liked the lights also. You can post them as often as you like:-)

Like it. I'd clone out the Beemer though. One stationary car seems to put the shot off-balance for me

How would do a shot like this with a Canon Digital Rebel. I'm new to the SLR world, and this was one kind of shot that I have been wanting to try. I know that on my Digital Rebel, the maximum you can set the shutter to be open is 15 seconds. Is there somehow to leave it open longer? I also wanted to do some nightitme shots of the stars as they rotate in the sky. Any ideas on keeping it open for a longer amount of time?

Thanks for the help.

Mine will go to 30 seconds ???. but if you want / need longer than that you set to bulb (in Manual mode) and the shutter will stay open as long as the shutter button is held down (So a cable release is a good idea for stability) or until the battery drains :-) !

Thanks for the kind words everybody.

KurtKuhn-

I don't exactly remember all the settings since I shot this a few months back but I do remember it being around a 25 second exposure with a tripod. I am shooting with a Pentax IST D at the moment. I am just saving up to get myself that darn Nikon D70. I want that thing so bad!

I agree that it would be much more dramatic if I could have captured the oncoming head lights but traffic was definatley not working with me that night. I remember it taking me quite some time to even capture that image because traffic was being extremely cruel to me. Haha.

What exactly do you mine by experimenting with different crops/aspect ratios? Enlighten me? Haha.

Thanks.

Haha...

You might be interested in this photo then? This is shot right infront of the entrance to the bar. I am pretty sure this window is actually the entrance to the bar because I went back one night to shoot there again and that window was turned into a door with two body gaurds standing outside of it. Haha. Anyhoo, enjoy...

That's my friend in the reflection.

What if you left the shutter open for like ten minutes.

Like cropping some of the street &/or some of the black sky &/or some of the sidewalk...
