After 2 years of shooting with my PowerShot S3, I got a Rebel XSi yesterday, my first DSLR. I went over to my buddy's place today after work to try her out. Here are some of my best from today. All were shot with my 55-250mm IS lens with IS on and AF off. All were shot at 1/320 in Tv mode. ISO was at 400. I just arbitrarilly picked those values, because I needed to establish a baseline to figure out where I need to go from here. Please let me know what you think.

Also, I don't yet have Photoshop. Is there any way in the ZoomBrowserEX or DPP to resize the images so they're not 4+MB and take forever to upload onto Photobucket?

Thanks,
Chris

nice...the focus on some of them seems to be a little off.

Why do you shoot with IS on and Af off? The shutterspeed is too short 1/320 for that kind of photos you have to go for at least 1/100 or under for a example. Get closer to the object!

Honestly they just look like "snapshots." Try to get closer to the action and frame the action better. Let the pictures show what you want us to see...if that makes sense.

IS on and AF off won't get you very great photos :S IS won't help if there's already enough light outside. Why not just use a high shutter speed? and AF should be on, unless somehow you have mastered manual focussing already. I assume you got those reversed

Shoot closer and crop even tighter

You can use ZoomBrowser to resize. Select the image or images you want to process and click the "print & email" button. A drop down menu opens up and you select "email images" button. In the next window click on the "custom settings" button and you can select the image size and quality then save it to where you want. It's pretty easy. Hope this helps and good luck with it.

If you are using windows xp you can download an xp powertoy image resizer http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx its on the right hand side of the page. You download it, install it and when you have finished editing your pics select them all right click and choose the size you want.

If you have vista i dont think they do powertoys lol
