Gitzo seems to make excellent tripods. Why don't people use their heads with their legs? Aren't they any good? I just recently purchased a leg/head combo (Gitzo is offering a $100 rebate right now) and am wondering why I don't see more of these combos. I'm upgrading from a very cheap Wolf camera version to a Gitzo. It seems rock solid. However, after reading a lot of tripod posts I don't see Gitzo heads recommended all that often.

I prefer Arca Style QR, and until recently, Gitzo made no ballhead that supported that.
Also, the Gitzo heads are quite heavy. Seems that the latest series have improved though.
The only Gitzo heads I would maybe consider are the Systematic Ball (on a systematic tripod for use with long lenses) or the Off Center Ball (on an Explorer tripod, because it offers a greater freedom of motion)
I have a Gitzo 1325 with Markins M10.

I use one of their three way heads but since I don't care for ball heads I have never checked out the Gitzo ball heads. The pan head is a very good head. It is not light but then three way heads are not light.
When I want light I have an Acratech ball head that I would use. It gets little use since ball heads do not do it for me (did I already mention that). I think Gitzo ball heads are up against some very stiff competition.

Because Markins and RRS are just so amazing! And yes the Arca-Swiss compatibility is a major factor too.
