View Full Version : Budget Flash Kit?

hey there!
I'd like to get myself a portable budget flash kit that I could carry even when outdoor, so it'd be great if you could recommend me some of the best?
Originally my plan was to buy each of the stuff separately, but it seemed like not a so great idea, as I've bought my first light stand (manfrotto), but it's too heavy and long and doesn't come with the bag (like tripod).
I'm thinking of this one:

but then you would need 2 flashes, won't you?
I already have a 430ex.
Cheers,
Tim

i have that kit and it's nice. the umbrellas are a tad on the small side, though.
take a look at this kit from mpex intended for the aspiring strobist.

wow thanks, but are those portable?; meaning if I could carry them outdoor without a hassle.
I kind of forgot to say that I have a budget of $200 though.

I have that same impact kit also. I'll agree with v35skyline and say the umbrellas are on the small side. If you find the umbrellas small, you can always buy bigger ones down the road.
You can always get another flash down the road. What wireless triggers are you going to get?

I'd just get that impact kit and then when you want to run a 2nd flash set up, you can get another flash. I use that impact kit w/ 2 sunpak 422d flash and the ctr-301p. From the one time I've used it (just got it recently and have been very busy w/ work), my pics came out pretty good.

Is it portable though? Like how is it when you carry it outside

I just have everything in a duffel bag. My wife bought a $20 duffel bag from target and I can fit everything and then some more.
If you want a pic, I can take one real quick for you

I quite like the idea of David Hobbys setup, manfrotto nano stands and double fold umbrellas
He drills a hole in one of the legs and is able to hook a shoulder strap to it, then take some ball bungees and strap the umbrella to the stand.
My setup i just have some no-name cheap stands, bungee 2 together with umbrellas and it carrys fine in one hand with camera in the other, backpack with flashes/lenses/batteries on my back.

That'd be awesome!!
To above: you may have given me an idea to save money! I already have a manfrotto light stand but it's a little bit too long on the size and doesn't have any bags like tv tripod bags.. I also don't have an umbrella yet, but I like the way you think
