I'm graduating from college next Saturday, and since my Dad won't be able to attend, my mom and I were going to get a camcorder to record it.
I'd be the one to do all the editing, burning, etc. and I use a Macbook. What do I need, or is everything included in the box to get it to work with decent editing capabilities?
We need something easy to use since my mom isn't too tech savvy, and something that I can work with on a Mac.
I'm hoping the FS200 is what I'm looking for.
Any input would be appreciated.

The fs 200 is a pretty good camera as long as you get a big enough sd card to film your entire graduation.
from what i've read, it works pretty well with iMovie which should have been installed on your mac with iLife when you bought it.
iMovie is pretty darn simple, and i'm sure you can find some tutorials on the web to help her out a bit.

iMovie is pretty darn great. Thanks for the good news!

I just bought a FS200 and I use a mac and it will not show that there is an external camera/drive period. Any suggestions???

Well, to be honest, that's all you need it to do. :)
The camera writes in .MOD, you can copy/paste or click and drag from the card to your computer, then rename to .MOV or .MPG, doesn't require any conversion.

Well it didn't work!!! I went out and bought a Sony video camera and sold the FS200 to my dad!

It has worked for me for months. Buying another camcorder is hardly a solution. :)
Best of luck.

You just change the file extension. On a PC, you right click the file and select rename. Not sure how that works on a Mac. Here's a site about MOD files on Macs.

I spent about a hour on the phone with apple support and about 30 min with canon support and we got it figured out! The camera had to be plugged into the wall then to USB to the mac and open up iMovie and it will reconize the camera. I took the Sony back and kept the trusty canon! Thanks for all the help!
