View Full Version : What's the definition of a "feeler" in Marketplace?

Having sold my 1DS mark one after only five months of a merry partnership, and through that having been bitten by the full-frame bug, I'm determined to try to pick up a 1DS mark 2 or even a used 5D mark 2 (dream on...). I was contemplating posting in the "buy" section of Marketplace, but the rules say "No Feelers. Feelers will be deleted without comment.".

Since I'm not in a rush and the budget is stretched until I can offload some other kit, my posting would probably have been more of a "feeler":

"Hello all, I'm considering getting a <...>, does anyone have a good deal we might be able to discuss?"

So, what's the definition of a "feeler" in Marketplace, and when does one start breaking the Marketpace forum rules?

A feeler is if you are unsure about selling or buying an item. For instance, "Hello all, I'm considering getting a <...>, does anyone have a good deal we might be able to discuss?" would be considered a feeler since you are just "considering". However, if you said "Hello all, I want to get a <...>, does anyone have a good deal we might be able to discuss? Pm me with details." then that would be perfectly acceptable since you want to buy something.

Also, if you are looking to buy something, make sure you place the ad in the Want to Buy section, not the sell section.

Just to elaborate a little on why the rule exist, ( in your case it looks pretty harmless, so it may seem arbitrary, ) but the majority of "feelers" we saw posted were more like auctions, or research into the market,.
IE: "... just how much can I get ?"

that and or people just un sure if they really wanted to sell at all which usually ended up with someone disappointed.

Our position is,
Post when you ARE ready to sell, and don't waste the forum or the members time while you decide, ...and don't use the forum to try and figure out market values,. or start a bidding war.

Do you research, make your decision and then post in market sale or buy sections.
