This little guy was tucked up in the trees. There really wasn't a better angle on him than this so I tried. This was my best attempt at getting him to show up in the picture.

Other than the fact that blew the exposure a bit what would you have done to make him stand out more? Smaller DOF?

I have tried shooting them whilst they are asleep in the midst of leaves and its a waste of time. Not much you can do. With a telephoto you could maybe get a sharp closeup of the face... but there's not many options, DOF or not.

The ones round here sleep something like 19 hours a day. 3fps motordrives not required! When I go looking for a pic I go when they're feeding (and hopefully asserting their social standing by chasing each other up and down trees and getting aggro). I have seen 2 koalas "fight" very energetically for a few minutes then call a truce to catch their breath. Also they will climb higher, carefully take a look, then leap from one tree to another like overgrown monkeys. Its like "follow the leader" when they chase one another. Its certainly a sight.
