Sigma EF-530 DG Super Problem

Hi gang, I have what appears to be a problem with this flash. Everything works as expected in all of the camera settings modes (EOS 50D) except the Av mode. For some reason, the camera sets the shutter to a very slow speed regardless of the aperture or ISO I choose. This is in E-TTL mode, by the way. And yes, I did have Sigma update to the latest firmware for the 50D.

I"m hopeful I'm just missing something obvious here and I don't have to send this back to Sigma again for additional updates. Any thoughts?

Av mode meters for ambient, the flash is set for fill. Use manual mode when you're using flash, unless you want just fill.
