Hello to all of you,

My name is Teo and I’m new to the Canon forum. :)

I am actually using Leica cameras, but soon I will buy my first Canon DSRL…actually I’m planning to buy the new D350, together with the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens…

I rekon that more than one people in this forum will have experience with this equipment (and even some sample images).

So could you please please give me your opinion upon the camera, the lens (what about bokeh, by the way?), and both of them together?

Regards,
T.O.

WELCOME!!!

The XT is a great camera!!! You will like it!!! The 17-85 IS is probably the most versatile lens you can get that covers both wide and semi-tele. It is not the fastest lens.......but you have IS to help stabilize your image in low light. GOOD LUCK!!! :D :D :D Oh, and don't forget the lens sticky in this forum......you will find tons of good info on starter lenses and etc....check it out!!!

Thanx a lot roanjohn,

the lens sticky is indeed very useful!!!

Well, I really like the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM, but it is rather expensive for me...

Do U think that the Canon EF-S 17-85mm would be also good for portraits?

thanx again,
T.O.

Zoom it out to 85 and you'll have the perfect focal length for portraiture. BUt, as mentioned above, the nifty fifty will not only give you a sharper pic, but also better background blur.

Hi Teo,

If you shoot alot of portraits, and have limited fund (like me), then 50mm f1.8 is da bomb! Currently $70 at B&H. That is my first additional lens after my 300D purchase.
