G'Day All.
Just a few more photos from last weekends Steamfest at Maitland, Australia.

The first photo is locomotive 3801 preparing to depart Maitland for Newcastle on a short steam tour.
EOS300D + Kit lens.

The second photo shows 3801 sitting at Newcastle Station awaiting return to Maitland as a parallel run to sister engine 3830, which was set to race a tiger moth between Newcastle and Maitland. The impressive building in the background is the old Customs House. With Newcastle Railway station set to close in the future I hope this is not the last steam that will be seen there :-( !
Interestingly the train on the other platform is also steam powered (but via a power station :-) ) !

These two photos show 3830 arriving into Maitland from Newcastle. Looks like the fireman was working hard to keep the coal up to the fire :-) ! Not sure I'd like to be standing up there though !

Firstly another shot of 3830 arriving into Maitland, and changing lines ! :-) !

The second photo shows 3830 taken from the parallel running 3801 during the great tiger moth race.
If you look closely you can just make out the tiger moth on the right side of the picture, and the trains are clearly in the lead at this stage of the race :-) :-) !.

The first photo here is of locomotive 3112 taken from a footbridge over the railway tracks. Looks like they keep some spare coal on the roof....or are they just a bit messy loading it :-) :-) !

Speaking of coal, the second photo shows a coal train speeding through Maitland on the way to the port of Newcastle.

Steam trains weren't the only attraction for steam fans either..thes old industrail and agricultural engines were also on display....And is that seat ever so ergonomically designed or what :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) !
EOS300D + Kit lens

Finally by the end of the day only the die hard steam fans (and those waiting for a train home :-) were hanging around as the sun set !

Hope I haven't bored everybody :-) !

Thank you very much Steve. The photos were fantastic! I am quite fond of the steam engines especially the steam powered traction engine. Reminds me of the railway on the island of Sodor. ;-)

Thanks all.
Rob, I did a trip on the Cockatoo run a few years ago, but had a small diesel engine because of a fire restriction at the time. It is a nice spot !

Hi Steve, This is an AWESOME set of photos! The first shot looks like one of the latest in the steam powered locomotive world. I wonder when those were made and used? 20's?
Nice to see the old steam powered tractor as well. Nice work, and THANKS for sharing these. :D

Thanks Sandy and Bruce.
The 3801 was built in 1943 and was the first of the class to be constructed..while 3830 was the last to be constructed in 1949. They were withdrawn from service in the late 60's and early 70's.
These two are now run on tourist trips.
