metering help

Just go the XT, my 1st SLR. I have no idea how to use the metering aspect of the camera. Is it something I should be using every shot? I read the manual, and understand the 1 page on metering settings, but as far as proper usage I am unsure. Any tips for use would be awesome. Thanks a lot.

I'm not sure what you mean by "how touse the metering aspect of the camera". Basically, what you do is set it to one type of metering mode (the default is Evaluative). From there, you just start taking pictures. If you're asking which metering mode you should use, I would recommend starting out with the Evaluative mode. For special cases where the picture isn't coming out right because of difficult light, you can then try switching to Partial metering mode or simply use AE lock which automatically uses Partial metering.
