I'm not surprised at all to see that many of these are simply residential addresses. I'm sure a number of these businesses are run out of the home. The reason is the concept of Business-to-Business-to-Consumer (B2B2C) storefronts that have popped up all over the internet. Amazon does it (however they do it well and under a slightly different model) as do countless others. The basic gist is one company handles all the logistics (Inventory, Payment, Fulfillment, etc). These online companies merely put up a site, set the prices, packages, etc and market the products. They then get a check from the main company for their profits. That's why customer service suffers with so many of these places, not only are they only one or two people strong, but they have limited access to research issues because they typically occur at the central company.
What I still want to know though is why are some many of these companies located in Brooklyn? I've yet to hear a solid explanation. This is a very strange demographic.

I care a lot more about their Reseller Rating (http://www.resellerratings.com/) than their location. As for so many in Brooklyn, they probably had to go where the storefronts were available for lease.
