I've been wanting to ask this for a little while.
My camera and lenses are sometimes in the camera bag, sometimes sitting on the table, sometimes in a box, etc.... I need to find a better and more practical way to keep them all organized.

How do you do it?

I have two backpacks, the Tamrac Expedition 4 (older version) where I keep my camera, one flash and the "most likely to be used" lenses. This is the bag I always carry around with me when I take my camera out. I also have a Lowepro Nature Trekker where I keep my backup body, less used lenses, flashes and the other accessories that I don't need all the time.

When I go on weekend trips, both bags go into the car along with the tripod and monopod and I don't need to worry about where I have everything or not.

I also have a little bag where I keep all my battery chargers and, of course, that goes along with the other two backpacks when I go on trips.

in my Tamrac Expedition 5 Backpack about 75% of the time.

I usually have my batteries recharging in the chargers, sets of AA's and my 20D batteries, plugged in

In the bag so I know where to grab it from. Except the A80 and DC290 which are in my work backpack and out for quick grabs.

Ok, sometimes around my neck, when it's really new, but I found it difficult to turn over while I'm sleeping.

Currently using 3 LowePro backpacks. CompuTrekker Plus AW for everyday use. It carries just about everything including my laptop and accessories. The ProTrekker AW carries everything I own and is used when I travel out of town for any extended period of time. I keep a MiniTrekker classic in the truck if I want to wander off and carry only a couple of lenses. A Domke J-1 and a LowePro Stealth 650 are used as shoulder bags and both can carry a heck of a lot of equipment. As well I have several LowePro lens cases of varying size and a few Sliploc pouchs that can be added to all the packs and bags for extra storage.
all equipment is always stored in one of the packs.

i voted "in other palces" as I have it pretty much scattered around.

My bag is full of whatever "kit" I am either using,. or used the last time.

I have a shelf dedicated to most of the other stuff,. optics in particular (lenses and filters and t-cons etc..)

And the two big primes are in the hallway with the bag in there own cases...

Then theres all the other stuff,. QR plates,. heads, etc.. scattered all over!

I store everything in pelican cases, taking out what I need for the day/week and placing what I am using in an appropriate soft-side bag, cleaning and returning to the pelicans after use.

I keep my 20D and the equipment in my signature in a Canon shoulder bag in my computer room. My A70 is usually in my car. My L lenses and other high priced equipment are kept safe at B&H for the time being :-(

I have a secure/locked closet with many padded dressor drawers. This is the default storage for everything photogrpahic. Out of sight = security. Everything has a place. And 5 different sized camera bags to load up with gear depending on what type "outing" it is going to be.

In a large cheap bag that never leaves the house. I'll pull what I need out and select a decent bag depending on what I'm doing that day.

Stored in the bag.

In another forum someone mentioned storing a digital camera in a bag with the lens end pointed down. Reasoning was that dust or other crap in the body would fall away from the sensor in this orientation. Anyone else doing this?

I have 3 cases; a Canon case that holds everything I have for my 20D, a smaller Eddie Bauer bag for my Pro1 & junk, plus I bought a bag that looks almost like a purse to haul around a smaller load when I don't need all the gear in the world. I'm starting to think I need a custom suitcase with luggage wheels and a long handle and roll all my junk around with me. Whew.

I purchased the Lowepro Micro Trekk 200 when I picked up the new Rebel Xt. I have since begun to wonder if it will hold all my gear as I get more.

I guess I'm the only one I know that stores my two cameras and small extras in a moderate-sized flat-topped red and white Igloo cooler, the kind you normally keep food in for a picnic. Cost: about $15. I see this as having several advantages: 1) It works VERY well to keep in-vehicle temperature extremes from affecting my cameras 2) It works very well also as a security device; not many people will think something valuable will be found inside a food cooler 3) It is easy to carry inside and out 4) It is pretty much waterproof 5) It does not look out of place in any natural setting where I like to take pictures.

Both cameras are always in their own soft cases as well, so I can quickly remove camera and case from the cooler, hang the case strap around my neck and with each camera always attached by cord to its soft case, I can take pictures without fear of dropping the camera to the pavement.

Incidentally, although I haven't done it yet, I can see it would be easy to customize a cooler by adding little plywood or cardboard dividing strips and also adding foam-rubber cushioning for extra protection. It is worth noting that even when the cameras have been in a hot vehicle in the sun for several hours (I forgot about them that time) I checked and the cameras were still cool to the touch, safely insulated by the cooler.

Body, lens, flash and misc parts in a brief case type "bag", big stuff I leave setup until the wife wants wants the garage back, then I knock it down into soft cases. Dual batteries one in the camera the other charging, never leave home without both. I have a flash bracket and meter that really hasn't found a home.

In my camera bag, generally on top of my cycling gear trunk in the living room. My tripod is in a corner. It makes it pretty easy to grab on my way out the door in the morning.

There is one area on my bookshelf where all my gears are placed..........easy access, and it lets me decide which lenses to take on a certain day...........My camera sits on my desk so I can play with it while I surf the computer.

All my bags are stored in my closet.........they're always empty when I get back home.

Everyone's different. It depends if you live on your own and if you have anybody else running around. I keep one of my camera on the table but the rest in different bags. My main lens and camera in the backpack., the accessories such as flash, chargers, etc in another bag and the third bag to hold things such as reflectors, clips, and extra batteries.

I voted in the bag because most of the stuff is usually in one bag or the other...

I need to get a better system I think.
