Hi all!
I wonder if the Tokina 17/3.5 ATX Pro is better or worse than the EF17-40/4L. So I need some sample photos to judge the sharpness at different apertures.
If someone knows about a good review on this lens - please post a link.
If you have this lens - please post some full resolution photos (crops) or a link to them.

Cheers!

Here are some shots from my sharpness tests at various apertures compared to the kit lens.

After doing that test I sold the Tokina and then I was considering either the 17-40L, 10-22 EF-S, or one of the 14mm primes, and finally went with the 10-22 because I determined I needed a wider lens.

Thanks guys! After taking a look at the test photos I decided to go for the 17-40/4L. I want a sharp WA lens as I interpolate the photos for large-size printing.
Pcasciola, I think you have a very nice copy of the EF-S 18-55. Very sharp! Mine is a crap :-(

Well it's a nice photo, but I need more than this.
The Tokina 17 AT-X Pro i s a nice lens for general purpose photos, bit I don't like the CA it produces. Especially in high contrast situations (like some landscapes) it produces a lots of CA in the whole frame that is unacceptable for me. Take a look at the photos others have posted - they are not as good as an L lens.
If I can stand for CAs, I still have the 18-55 kit lens.

Man I hate CA as well, don't blame you a bit, best of luck in your search!
I had sold that 17mm to a guy in Alaska, figuring I had a 16-35L inbound, well
after getting two samples of that L lens, I gave up, first one wouldn't focus
properly, second one had bad distortion on the wider end, I've used a friends
16-35L and that one worked great but I got tired of sending the lens's back
and forth and now I'm still waiting on the credit for the last return!

I took that money, split it and am buying a Tokina 12-24mm as well as a Canon 200L
I've heard and seen very good things about the 12-24, it's not in stock yet but when it
hits Adorama they'll ship it out straight away.

ps the photo above was shot wide open at f3.5 and 1/15 of a second, fairly sharp wide open...

I love mine ;)
Here are a few samples from the Tokina (extremely sharp lens, even wide open) :

I'll go for theTokina 12-24. I have read some very good reviews for this lens and it is much wider than the 17mm. It seems to be in stock now at www.canogacamera.com
