Alrighty folks, I was wondering if you could:
1) Post how much you paid for your 20D (body or kit)
2) Where you got it from
3) Was the service good or bad from your camera dealer? Would you buy from again?

I paid $1343.00 free shipping.. that is body and kit lens.
I bought from www.buydig.com they are the best as far as I'm concerned. always best service and best price. They will do anything to take care of the customer in most cases.. I bought mine a few months ago so you may be able to find it cheaper. The thing I will warn people against is buying from vendors that dont tell you all the details on the camera. Most of them will leave out batteries and chargers as well as softwrare. If you find it cheaper then you do at buydig I would challenge you to really check out the final cost and compare them. Make sure it's the same package with the USA warranty.

$1500 for the 20D+18-55 kit from B&H back in September because I didn't want to wait. Excellent service as usual, and I buy from them all the time. 90% of my orders are at my door in under 24 hours.

Near the end of March 2005 I paid $1430.00 for the 20D/18-55mm kit from B&H, plus about $18.00 for shipping. Service from B&H was fantastic, no problems whatsoever and they shipped it when they said they would.

And I bought it about three weeks before Canon announced their $100 rebate on the 20D. AAAHHGGG!!!

I got my 20D for 1440 something with the 18-55mm kit. I bought several other things which brought up the price to 2000 bucks.

2) Where you got it from

I got it from Adorama.com

3) Was the service good or bad from your camera dealer? Would you buy from again?

Their service was really good. Not exactly the warmest possible but I think it was just this particular salesman. He just seem to have drunk 3 red bulls and 2 cups of coffee that morning. Yes, I would buy from them again, I'm just gonna try B&H next time to see what I like best. :D

I purchased my 20D with 18-55 kit lens from Dell during one of their promotions last week. I paid $1,180 delivered. Then if the rebate works it will knock it down to $1,080

I buy a lot of stuff from Dell with no problems.

Ok. Broadway Photo in New York. They charge $1309 for the "same" kit that I paid $1430 for at B&H. Broadway's "kit" does NOT include the Canon BP-511A Lithium-Ion battery or the Canon CG-580 Battery Charger. In fact, it comes with NO battery or battery charger AT ALL! But, they'll gladly sell you a third-party battery and charger for just $240 more!

Check out the reviews at epinions.com (http://www.epinions.com/webs-Web_Services-All-Merchants-Broadway_Photo) to see what others think. As a matter of fact, I would suggest checking the reviews for ANY online camera store you're considering dealing with.

I paid $2052 (including delivery to NJ) for the body and all included parts (battery, charger, software, etc.), 17-85 IS-USM, and 1 GIG card.

Purchased from Janos Photo-video in Harlingen, TX. They were very friendly and helpful, taking time to answer all my questions, and they are a authorized Canon dealer (no gray market).

I would definitely buy from them again. :D

My experience with a number of the "New York" stores was quite enlightening, from having the phone answered with "Yeah", to finding several web sites which appeared quite dissimilar, but had the same address (probably someones basement!).

I have bought every lens from them as well at their sking price. Around $1160 for the body during one of Dell's crazy discounts a couple of weeks back. It was too early for the Canon rebate, but when I emailed Dell about it, asking how I can avail of the rebate despite having purchased the camera outside the time frame, Dell credited me back $100. I love Dell!

By the way, they recently had $750 off coupons for notebooks - it made me pull the trigger for two units. That's the downside... they're getting all my money :(

NZ$2600 with 18-55 lens - about US$1800. Probably more than most paid, but I wanted to buy locally in case I had problems. Lucky I did, I returned my first because the sensor was dirty and had spots that couldn't be removed.

a) $1489.84 (I just looked at the receipt earlier today) :)
b) Amazon in January -- body only. Good thing is I got a $150 off coupon because of it, so my 420EX flash ended up costing me $27 with no tax or shipping :)
c) Great service -- ordered it on the 4th, received it on the 5th... I've bought all my gear from them except the 10-22mm.

mddpics
22nd of April 2005 (Fri), 01:07
1) I paid $1399 for it back in January.

2) I got it from B&H, they were running it for $100 off and free shipping, resistance was futile (I was planning on waiting for what Canon would come up with next).

3) I have bought from B&H since 1996 and have nearly always had great and quick service. I got a chance to visit the store a few months ago and was blown away…thought I was in camera heaven.

Only problem now is that $100 I saved has been consumed ten fold on other things (2GB CF card, camera bag, 50 1.4 lens, etc) to accessorize the 20 D and other gear. But from what I can tell lurking on the site I am not alone.

Cheers,

Mike

When I got my camera and gear late January, I paid:

(At US0.72 : $1NZD)
20D $2499 (US$1800)
17-40L $1499 (US$1079)
Sigma 70-300 $465 (US $335)
50mm 1.8 $100 I think

Nice and expensive eh?
The body was the cheapest price at the time, when local retail price was $3399, (US $2450)

Camera and spare battery was bought from Parallel Imported Ltd (Albany)
17-40L + Sigma 70-300 was from Auckland Camera (Morningside)
50mm 1.8 second hand, was from Photo & Video International (ChCh)
2x 1Gb CF Lexar 80x, Flashcards.co.nz (ChCh)

I would recommend all. Parallel Imported for price, locally, cannot be beaten most of the time.
Auckland Camera, very knowledgeful, fairly well priced compared to other camera stores.
Photo & Video: Good service, good prices, but sadly in Christchurch.
Flashcards: Very fast, online store. Shipped from Christchurch.

Honestly? My hubby got it off a camera shop on Ebay, can't remember the name now.
Paid a little over 2K for a kit including:
The camera body, 18-55mm lens, macro lens, filter kits (3), lens cleaning kits, camera bag (which was crap), tripod, 4Gig Mircodrive, card reader, extra lithium battery, 5 year extended warranty and a the other basic that came with the camera (CDs with programs, PSE2 or 3, Canon's software etc). Pretty good deal I thought.
From now on I'll probably start ordering from B&H, I liked their speedy service last time I ordered from them.

In February I bought the wife's at Willoughby's for $1,428 with the kit lens. A 75-300 IS USM and shipping brought it up to $1,926.95. They were alright but their web site is hard to navigate. Probably will not be back.

A month later I bought mine from B&H for $1,369.95, body only. A Tamron 28-300mm, Canon 50f/1.8. 420EX and some other stuff brought it to $2,212 with shipping. I have returned to the mother ship more than once since.

Dante, that is a good thing to do. I would do the same thing, but I live at the Queens/Brooklyn border in NYC and the closest photo shops would be those shady Brooklyn Camera stores :D They certainly will not have my money and/or my credit card number. I could go over the East River and head to B&H (wonderful place that makes one drool!) but it's not exactly a 'local' store in the ordinary sense. Man, that place is what heaven must be like.

You have to check the Dell site and Google for "Dell Stackable Coupons" on a regular basis to come up with some good prices. Don't be shocked if you come up with a GREAT deal one day and the same item is cheaper the next(it could also be more expensive. The 20D Body I just bought on Ebay was listed with a 10% Discount.
I found a coupon for 15% off insted;I also found a coupon for $65.00 off any purchase in Electronics for orders over $500.00. Thet were also offering a 2% discount on the Dell site for using a " Dell Preffered Account" for your purchase;I found a coupon good for 10% off using the "Dell Preffered Account". Plus they were offering Free Shipping and the Canon $100.00 Rebate.
Here's a good site for coupons(they change everyday):

Yup it was Boylans, looks like you got a better deal across the board than I did but I am happy with my purchase and I know Shane will handle any problems that come up, . . . so between here and there . . . s'all good.

I would be intersted to know how that second battery works out for you and what brand it is.
I paid $20 more for the flash card but as I have a sandisk card reader, I felt it wasn't a bad idea to stick with like manufacturers.

Hey Larry, the 20d is a bargin at any price and your right, Shane will look after you. I may have gotten a little better price deal but it took about a month to get what I wanted for the price I wanted to pay and obviuosly I took a little risk dealing on Ebay. It all turned out well though. Here's a link to the battery and remote I purchased. (missed the prices by a bit in my earlier post, poor guess work) The battery is a 1350 mah and works fine. It charges good on the Canon charger that came with the camera as well. The remote is also after market for the canon 20D but works great. All the other equipment is actual Canon stuff. The last link is what I bought for storage rather than have a bunch of extra cards. I can download 40 gigs to it and it saves both raw and jpeg formats. Probably see you out and about sometime, you'll be the guy with the new 20D and the big smile. Gotta get some summer soon...

Alrighty folks, I was wondering if you could:
1) Post how much you paid for your 20D (body or kit)
2) Where you got it from
3) Was the service good or bad from your camera dealer? Would you buy from again?

1) $1244 (body only)
2) Dell.com
3) Quick delivery ahead of stated schedule. First camera received was defective. They overnighted a replacement within 4 days. Email communication with their support was less than polished but I will definitely buy from them again.

I purchased mine at B&H right about three weeks ago, the total came out to about $2350 which included, Canon 20D, 17-85mm lense, 550EX Flash, and a battery. Instead of purchashing it at the store (i'm from New York), I had it shipped to my brother's place in New Jersey and saved myself about $180 in taxes. Only costed me $22 shipped and $6 tolls. I didnt even have to wait long.... next day delivery. and of course $100 rebate.

I paid about $1350 at B&H. There was no rebate on the camera when I bought it, but I did get a couple hundred back with AMEX price matching.

Hey Thomascanty, You mentioned you got couple of Hundred back with AMEX price matching. How did you do that??? I used my AMEX to purchase it...... like to learn more about this!?!

After my Rebel XT was delayed for the fourth time, I thought I would see how good a 20D deal I could get. How about $956.

I tried many times to get to the right "Order Modification" desk and each time I was told that I'd lose my discounts if I changed cameras. What a difference time of day can make. This afternoon, calls are routed to the call center in Panama City, Panama (not India). The spanish accent wasn't nearly as difficult to understand as the heavy India dialects.

The rep called up my order, changed it from an Rebel XT to a 20D, made sure I got the 15% Camera discount, made sure I got the 10% Dell Preferred discount, let me use the $90 coupon I got two weeks ago when the order was first delayed. Made sure I will get overnight shipping for free. I'm getting a new Canon 20d for $1056.74 (after the Canon $100 rebate, that'll be $956.74).

The key was persistence. I kept a log of the various India call routings and I spoke with 9 reps and 2 supervisors without any resolve. Keep calling until you get a rep in Panama.

Today, I spoke with one Panama City rep and all is well.

Thought I would pass on that buy.com has the 20D for $1399 with the kit lens, or $1349 body only, before the $100 rebate, no tax (except for MD, MA, CA) and free shipping. You can also get another $15 off with the first time customer deal. This is about the lowest current total price I've seen at a 'mainstream' site, esp for the version with the kit lens. And I've been looking.

Are the rest of you Brit's pulling your hair out reading these prices from our cousins in the US of A. I have just paid £1000 20D Body only, £500 for the 17-85 IS USM, £570 for the 10-22 USM £230 for the Tamron 28-300 XR DI, plus another £75 for 2 lens hoods and a spare battery that's almost £2300. How much over there? We certainly get ripped off, this side of the pond, but if you have to have the toys, you've got to pay. Enjoy your bargains brothers.

Anyone know how often they have these Dell Coupons?

I paid $1343.00 free shipping.. that is body and kit lens.
I bought from www.buydig.com (http://www.buydig.com/) they are the best as far as I'm concerned. always best service and best price.

I made the mistake of placing an order with them for a digital P&S camera a few years ago only to have them tell me they didn't have just the camera in stock and that I would have to buy a kit for $150 more (which contained maybe $75 worth of extra stuff I didn't want anyway). There goes the reason I placed the order with them. I cancelled my order and bought from B&H Photo. I've ordered everything since then from B&H or my local camera store.

Edit, buydig.com sucks.

c'mon guys. gentlemen shouldn't discuss in public their salary, the sexual appetites of their significant other, or the price paid for their 20D.

you wouldn't want me to make y'all feel bad now, would you?

1) Post how much you paid for your 20D (body or kit)
I paid $1329.95 for (US-retail) body only + $56.50 for overnight shipping on 6/10/05.
***Warning - if you find it cheaper than this ANYWHERE (magazine/online) it will be a trick! Like someone said earlier it won't have all the accessories and it will go on back order the day after they promise you that you will have it! NO exageration! Either that or the menu functions will all be in Chinese!

2) Where you got it from
B&H!! Them and Adorama are like the only legit places any more. Everyone else is doing the "bait & switch".

3) Was the service good or bad from your camera dealer? Would you buy from again?
In a heart beat! I wish some of the prices were cheaper....but you get what you pay for!

***Edit***

That's an excellent deal CRC! I was more referring to the $999 or lower prices you see out there. Those are the real ones to watch out for!
