Hey Everyone,
I am new to photography and just picked up a XSi. The pics were shot with my 55-250mm f4-5.6. Let me know what you think of Koa.

What a gorgeous puppy! Oddly enough, my daughter's name is Koa, but it's in Japanese and could translate as "loving, as [deep as] a lake", and is written like this:
湖愛
Regarding your pictures, are you after C&C?

C&C would be cool, let me give a bit more info.
Post processing included cloning out the leash in some shots. My shots definitely need sharpening at least in my opinion. However, whatever else you would suggest would be awesome.
Thanks

No worries....
Well, first of all, your XSi and kit lens should be capable of taking some nice pictures, so the most important issue I can see if where/how you're focusing.
For example, in the first shot, the grass in front of "Koa" (wow, that seems strange to me) is in focus....but Koa isn't.
Personally, I would choose the central AF point (I'm assuming you can do that with the XSi? Just look it up in the Instruction Manual), then half-push the shutter button on Koa's eyes. Try that a few times, and you should find the whole image quality will be lifted.
Next will come the lighting - try out different times of day, indoors, outdoors, etc. Get used to what happens in each circumstance.
Then the composition will become clearer to you....sometimes, a really close up shot will strike you as showing Koa's character....and sometimes, a running shot, with ears flapping and tail wagging will be perfect.
All the above need practice, and you need to coordinate the shutter speed, aperture and moment of taking the picture to get the best.
Oh, and of course, post pics on here so we can all help you improve!
Have fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Koa!
Simon
