What printer do you have and how do you like it? I'm new to photography as a hobbby. I have a dRebel XT. Thanks for any and all recommendations.

Well, I bought a canon pixma 5000 mainly for brand loyalty reasons.
It prints nice clear pictures and is stylish.
Plus it's fairly economical.

I love me I9900 from Canon. The images jump off the pages. Granted it's a large format printer, but I believe it's small sibling is the i960. It's well worth the cost if your printing your own images and it's FAST

I've got the Epson R320.

I don't print a lot of pictures, so I didn't need to go the high-dollar route. A photo printer that would print 8X10's is all I needed, and I found it for about two bills...

My wife just loves her Epson 2200. It is a large format so she can print 12x12 scrapbook paper. Epson also makes a smaller & less expensive verson whose model designation escapes me.
I have to "make do" with an HP 7550.
I have heard many good things about the Canon printers.
Now that muddies the water, doesn't it ???

I got the pixma iP4000, upgrading from an HP Deskjet 1200. Boy what a difference. I never was that happy with the HP, too but that low opinion got worse once I started with the Canon. Amazingly good results, very fast, dual paper trays, closes up nice and tidy, and much more economic to use. I very nice printer.

Another IP4000 here. It all closes up when not in use and looks cool. With the dual paper trays you can leave the top closed and still print stuff.

Also an IP4000 user here, and goodness how amazing the photos are that this thing shoots out. Its fast, quiet (you cant even hear it printing) and very economical. Not to mention, its VERY efficient on ink, and the ink cartridges are only 10 bucks a color, you absolutely cannot go wrong with the PIXMA or the i9xxx line of printers.

I had a Epson R200, sold it immediately after I played with Canon Pixma iP5000 at a store. I can't be happier with my decision. Canon inks are cheaper too in general.
Go to Amazon.com and lookup for Pixma printer reviews. Alot of users compare HP, Lexmark, Epson head to head with Canon.

Canon i860 is great. If and when I need bigger/better prints it will be i9900 (or whatever they come out with next.) Make sure you look into the costs "down the road." Some printers cost a lot to refill and keep going and some don't.

In summary, most photographers here use one of the two brands of inkjets, Epson and Canon.

When you look at details of individual models, there is a lot of difference according to large format/small format, color fidelity, cost of ink, and longevity of each.

Epson R800. I love printing directly to disc, IMO, it is a must have extra. Kind of like once you have heated seats or nav in a car, you'll miss it later. Maybe it's just me. ;)

I love my Canon S9000. Fast and photos look great. Newer models are better I'm sure, but it is still chugging along, so I'll keep it for a while.

I got a Canon i9900 last fall and have never failed to be extremely impressed by it. Fantastic printer. I may have done more 13x19" prints than anything else just because I can!

I have the Epson Stylus Photo 950 (I think it's called 960 in the USA). It works well, especially with Ilford Smooth Pearl paper.

I would love to have the Epson R1800... maybe I'll buy one in a few months.

Just to be different I've got the HP 5550; fitted with a photo cartridge and Premiunm plus photo paper, the images are superb with very accurate colour rendition.

Canon i9900

Fast, high quality printing. My old printer was a HP photosmart 13 something, i dont remember.. but it sucked.. slow... and the quality wasnt as rich as the i9900.

printing borderless 13x19's in less than 5 mins is a plus.
printing borderless 8x11's in less that 3 mins is even better. I can take a picture.. print it out and show the hard copy to my family in friends right there on the spot.
