Nice shots. So do they eat fish, hence the name and is that fish rements on the beak?

Alan, The lens is f4, so just maintains a/f with the 1.4 tc on. however i have to use a hefty tripod to try and hold it all steady and as the light was not great i seem to remember having to use iso1600 to keep the shutter speed up, which was ideal. i still need to work on my long lens technique.
By the way, your blue tit shots are Cracking!!

Cactusclay, the birds do eat fish ( very spectacular when diving to catch ) but the stuff on the beak is most likely mud from where it and it's mate are starting to burrow their nest? ( they nest in burrows in mud banks )
Glenn.
P.S. if you look at my first post on kingfishers at slimbridge you can jusy see the start of the burrow. it's about 8" deep at the time these pictures were taken.

Thanks about the comment about my "blue tits" ;)
I was chatting to a chap in the kingfisher hide.He was saying how crap the light was.He said the best time to photograph them is in the morning.Theres always a shadow over the hole and sarounding area in the afternoon.
So if you are planning to get up there again for some more shots of them get there when they open.
