Since when did they put USM on the kit lens?? What camera comes w/ the USM now? Just the 20D or the XT as well? Anyone out there get the new USM lens w/ their camera??? My 20D arrived today, and it does NOT have the USM lens.

I've seen the EF-S 18-55mm lens that came with my 300D listed as a USM lens on multiple storefronts (including B&H). Nothing on the lens indicates that it is USM but the info I've seen claims it is.

As I understand it, the 18-55 comes in two versions, one USM, one not.

Tim is right. There are two versions of the 18-55 EF-S. I think most of the kits come with the non-USM version, and I don't believe Canon offers the USM version in any kit at this time, although some stores "make up" their own kit that includes the USM version.

Pop Photo just did a review of the XT and said it comes with the USM lens. I bought the kit a few weeks ago, and it is MOST definitely not a USM lens! In fact mine sounds like a spring cranking when changing focal lengths.
