[ PLEASE limit to 2 pix only ]

I have been reading an old magazine that talked of this gutsy attitude, this 'who dares wins' & 'just do it' guerilla type attitude that is often the only way to grab the right angle - the right view - the right composition that makes the shot.

Its the hunting instinct of old kicking in, its the same adrenalin!

This prized "trophy" or yours (no matter what camera used) would've been only mediocre at best or even just impossible without having to:
jump a fence or Police Line,
trespass,
hangout with deathly ill patients,
risk violence from criminals,
get close up to celebrities that make you a mass of jelly,
wait in a freezing hide all day or night,
having to disguise the fact that you a using camera, etc etc.

You know what I mean.

Most members have a "trophy" pic... bring out your secrets!! Shows us how your courage was rewarded.

I'll dig around-- but I took some shots in 1986 in what was then East Germany-- shots of "Popes Revenge" in East Berlin" and murals of Stalin and Lenin-- all of which were off limits to take. Held the camera under a comforter I had just bought. Give me a few days to dig them up.

I love them. Its mostly what used to sell Newsweek and Life etc. Its a worthy thread, but perhaps not enough of us have anything to show...

i may aswell get the ball rolling
here's a crappy pic i took with my IXUS 30 against the sun, i wanted a 'wow' pic of the dam wall, so i jumped over the 6ft wall so i could get down low and get a shot of the wall, it turned out like absolute crap, but the effort was there none the less.
althought it looks like i'm not that high up because of the tree, i assure you if i fell, i wouldn't be typing this today.

Signs are there for a reason... I ignored the signs and walked in the area.. I managed to capture shot number two.. It would have been a better image if I was closer, but I was running pretty fast back to the truck after I took it. :)

Nice shot of the bear.

You'd lose that bet Zopi.
A bear is an incredibly powerful and fast animal which can out run a quarter horse for several hundred yards!

Great photo of the bear. I would love to have a chance to take a photo like that.

I cover a lot of these cutting competitions for the American Bladesmith Society where folks who forge their own steel blades can test for edge retention, balance, etc. in the context of a fun contest. This shot was taken in 2003 1 year before safety measures began to be implemented so I had total unfettered access and frequently took advantage of it despite a risk of flying debris, loose or broken knife blades etc. This image also appeared in BLADE magazine.

The object here was to cut into the coconut far enough to be able to pour some of the 'milk' into your mouth and spit it out again, without damaging the edge of your blade on the hard coconut shell. You can see the blade in the coconut lower left. Fortunately the only coconut juice that hit me was on my jeans and legs - the camera and lens escaped that sticky fate.

Trying to capture the feel of water rising right to the level of a rickity old bridge in Alabama can be a little risky and nerve-wracking.

I'd limit my contributions to just 2 pics but since this seems to be almost a dead thread I'll exceed the limit. I sure would love to see some other examples but apparently it's not something photographers like to do (take a risk to get the good shot) - with the exception of combat photo-journalists of course.

I suppose there was some risk in getting this close to a sky-rocket launching:

Jay, That is wild! I believe that cat is laughing at you - nay, mocking you as it were. Cats are like that. Very nice pic. Wonderful expression!

BTW, regarding the polar bear... as the old joke goes - I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun the person I'm with :)

Damn, I took some pictures one year in the winter when snow was covering everything and I had a great shot of some trees on the edge of this pond. The ice was cracking in some parts near the shore, and I guess it was kind of stupid to walk out on thin ice, but the pictures were worth it. Unfortunately I have no idea where they are. I'm sure on one of my dozen or so hard drives I have all these great pictures from the snow that year, but I just haven't managed to find them :-(.

I wish I had something to add to this post :P The best I have is this pic of an Old World Vulture at the zoo..... he had escaped from the enclosure and was next to one of the observatory huts.... My camera lens was only inches from his face, along with my fingers ;)

sigma 70-200, near focus distance 5.9 feet i think, with a 3 foot tripod that puts the snake about 1.967 feet away. anyways after I cleaned out my pants I took some pics. thought about cleaning some o the grass out of the way but then thought maybe i shouldn't.
