View Full Version : Help-firmware update problems (FALSE ALARM)

I downloaded the 20D firmware update last night and today tried it with my new (arrived today) 70-200 f2.8L IS and discovered there was no IS or AF. I tried other lenes and just get BUSY and then ERROR99. Anybody ran on to this?

PS I did not have the lens on during the udate and it went smoothly.

maybe its just that lens? Would be interested to hear back form others that have upgraded firmware.

IS and AF are 100% on my camera. Remove and reinstall the lens. You probably have lens-to-camera contact issues. This is NOT a firmware issue.

I've removed and reinstalled the lens, checked contacts, rebooted, reloaded the firmware, removed and put in another set of fresh batteries. It does the same with all my IS Af lenses.

What if you try re-flashing?

PS-Make that ALL my lenses. I didn't mean to stir up a scare about the firmware, it's just that the camera work fine yesterday and just went into my Pelican case after the download until I tried the new lens tonight.

Do you mean from the computer to to the card and then redown load, or just reload from the card. I have reinstalled the firmware from the card once.

You could try to re-DL from Canon's site -- just in case.

I flashed last night and everything seems fine -- IS (if equipped) and AF work on all my lenses.

I have the older 1.1.0 firmware as well, so if you need to downgrade lemme know.

THANKS!! I redownloaded from Canon, but this time I used a Sandisk Ultra II card instead of my beater PNY 128 card and all is right with the world. Do you think the PNY card was corrupted? O, and the 70-200L 2.8 Is is awesome. I bought it based on comments from this forum. It is going to be great in Africa this fall. taking it and the 100-400 Is and 1.4 TC. Anyone interested in coming along?

I suspect that there are some camera/lens settings that are being misunderstood. Since this firmware has been out for two days, there is only one user I have seen on 4 forums having any problems.

Time to sit back, re-read equipment documentation and re-group.
