Am going to buy the mac probook 17 inch laptop and am trying to decide between the glossy screen and the matte screen. I find my reflection in the glossy screen quite distracting. I am an amateur photographer and so am wondering if the matte screen is better for working with pics. I shoot with a canon 50 D that I've only had a couple of months. Thanks.

I just recently bought a couple of news macs both with glossy screens, and I thought that I wouldn't get used to them but now I prefer them. They give such a rich image.

It's really a personal choice. I like glossy, but for some reason I hardly ever notice the reflections. Go to the store and start using both and see if it gets on your nerves... If it does then don't get a glossy :)

Also remember that stores tend to have lots and lots of lights so you will see more reflections than at home.

I have a glossy 17" and prefer it to the matte. As others have said, its definitely a personal choice so if you can go to a store and compare I would strongly recommend it.

I currrently have a 7 yr old destop with an old 15 inch monitor so in the store I prefer the matte. Just not sure if my eyes would adjust to the glossy in the long run. Any benefits to the glossy over the matte? Previous threads seemed to indicate people preferred the matte but that post was from 2007 and I'm sure the monitors have changed alot since then.

For a notebook like that it's up to you. The brightness of the LED screens on the new glossy Macbooks really help to drown out reflections.

I have a matte last-gen 15" MBP. Love it.

THere's one thing I forgot to mention. There is a 'slight' drawback to using a glossy screen vs a matte. Glossy screen's are by their very nature more contrasty so when you view them on normal screens they will loose some of their 'pop'. Not much, but it's there.

i like glossy, but recently bought a anti-reflection dell monitor, and wow... it's amazing, no dust, or slight dirt is displayed on it.

That's the only other small drawback of glossy....dirt and fingerprints :(

no matter what screen you get, make sure to get something to calibrate it.
