Is this a myth or is it fact? Ive heard that you shouldnt use a flash with a baby since the bright light can damage thier fragile eyes.

Im wanting to practice with some baby shots, but I dont want to hurt them.

Also as a side note, does anyone know of any good books with tons of baby photographs? The sort parents would love, not like ann getties or what ever her name is does. :0)

You could look at scrapbooking idea books, one in particular by Creating Keepsakes titled The Big Idea Book of Baby Memories. It does not have tons of professional baby pictures, but it would show you pictures that parents loved.

I've never heard of a flash hurting their eyes, & by now I'm sure that we would have. If you're using quartz lights, heat would be a bigger problem, along with squinting.

Currently the flashes I use are sometimes the ones on camera but moslty my vivitar 285hv. and eventually probably the Canon one, I dont know its code name, but its roughly $200us.

This is what I did once.

I have a 5-in-1 reflector. If you take off the colors, there is one translucent diffusing panel. I suspended that a couple of feet above a baby crib, and then suspended my 550EX flash above the panel, pointing down at the baby. The STE2 was on the camera to command the flash.

There is still a flash pop, but it is all very diffuse and not likely to create a problem.

I always use bounced flashing technique to shoot my baby, it looks a lot better than a direct flash anyway.
