OK there's no picture here and this is why:

Yesterday I was up in Cumbria on business. On the way home I stopped off at a bridge that had caught my eye many times and had marked down as a place to shoot. So I parked the car, got changed out of my suit and into my walking gear and headed off to the bridge. I spent about 1/2 hour taking some decent pics.

I then noticed I had company in the shape a two red squirrels. They seemed to be interested in me (probably looking at my G3 and thinking "He'll never get us with that lens") and they came steadily closer. I quickly put on my zoom lens and stood stock still. I talked to them a little bit and they moved closer and closer. I moved slightly and they moved slighty, I moved left and they moved left. Eventually after about 25 minutes they came right down onto the edge of the bridge and within about 20 feet of me.

"Here's my award winning shot" I thought, as I peared at the boldest guy ready to leap from the branches onto the bridge. A red squirrel in mid-leap - wow! And I deserved it, I'd spent 25 minutes getting these guys to trust me and now all I had to do was press the button.

"Woooooooooohooooooooooooo yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh" Two guys on mountain bikes came thundering down the path, just about gave me a heart attack and sent the squirrels into another county.

"Hey what are you shooting?" say one guy.

"**** all thanks to you!"

Most annoying thing is that the path I was on is out of bounds for bikes, but these two guys couldn't give a toss.

I hung around for another 1/2 hour but I think the squirrels were up in the trees giving eachother CPR. :(

Does Canon do any anti-mountain bike gear?

it might make even more of a noise but you'll have the satisfaction of seeing them squeerm on the floor in pain and then that could be your award winning shot haha

A miniature grenade launcher mounted to the camera might work.  Sorry to hear of the missed shot. I really can't stand rude insensitive people, especially those that are where they AREN'T supposed to be. If I see someone trying to set up a photo shot, I give them a wide berth until they are done, maybe it's because I know what it's like to miss the one moment in time.

They weren't at all apologetic and that made me even angrier. But by the time I'd driven the 180 miles home I'd calmed down!

I do empathise with you, but have you never ridden where you weren't meant to? Or taken photos where you weren't meant to? Now though, I don't have a bike and I do have a camera, so I too would have wished for a minature grenade launcher.

I have, of course, but never in an area that is set aside as habitat for an endangered species.

A few months back I got into an argument with a guy who had let his dog chase and kill a red squirrel. There are signs everywhere telling people that dogs are not to be let of their leads, but he did and the squirrel was killed. He actually had the audacity to say "where else can I take my bloody dog for a walk" and we were about 500 yards away from a 6 mile long beach!!

Sorry, Canon doesn't. But you have several vendors that can help you: Colt, Ruger, Smith & Wesson, Mossberg, Remington, Glock... you name it :D:D

I sympathise, iv'e spent a lot of time kayaking down in the keys.. cruising along enjoying the peace and solitude getting close to all the wildlife until 6 yahoos on jetski's blast through disturbing everything for miles.
I've often wished my kayak had homing torpedos.

I mountain bike and have a camera.. So i'd have to go with mess up my bike, I mess up your camera. But in real life, I wouldn't do anything like that.

Im with Nocturnus.
A mountain bike is a completly harmless piece of equipment. Its not like they came rumbling over the hill in some Jeeps throwing beer bottles and slinging mud at your squirls. A mountain bike is comparable to bonefish's kayak, whereas the Jeep scenario is compared to the jet ski's.
However, I do think an apology should have been offered for kindness sake, but I dont beleive they were in the wrong riding bicycles on what sounds like a trail. Unless of course there was a very specific sign outlawing bicycles in that specific area.
