Ok, I know its been asked a million times, but I couldn't resist. Sorry for the pain, but I am in the market for another general purpose lens. I currently have the Canon Digital Rebel camera with the 18-55mm kit lens, a Sigma 18-50mm lens, Sigma 55-200mm lens and the Canon 50mm f/1.8. I have heard great things about the Tamron 28-75, but is there any other lens that is better that is in the same price range(under $400)? Just wondering, opinions/suggestions please. Thanks.

If the Tamron meet your focal length needs it is a damn fine lens. Hard to beat dollar per pixel.

Go for Tamron. At this price level, she produces value lens. Also, if you don't mind, you may be also interested in ultra zoom lens such as 18-200mm or 28-300mm.

Have you thought about the 18-200 either Tamron or Sigma ? It's the digital equivalent to 28-300 so it covers wide-angle to telephoto. It might well be the best compromise for a good walkaround lens an dit should be in your price range.

Another vote for Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 - it's hard to beat in this price range.

webman06, these "x10-12 zoom" lenses generally tend to produce not that great results. They are very convenient to use and some are very cheap, but almost all of them don't have great optical quality.

I saw where Belmondo was saying good things about the Sigma 24-60/2.8. I'm going to have a look at it, the next time I'm near one.

Here (http://www.pbase.com/olegis/image/36114206/original) you can see a sample from my Tamron 28-75 at 75 mm and f/2.8 (original JPEG from 10D, no PP).
